If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you must know that I love to travel. I’ll travel by myself, or with my kids, or just with my husband; I don’t care! Any way I can get out and about, I’m there. I honestly love each type of trip, but I actually think family travel is really important. It brings family together, creates memories, and forms bonds that last a lifetime. Some of my best memories were on trips with my parents and brothers, and I want that for my kids as well. Now, parenting in and of itself can be daunting, let alone taking your kids on a trip! Embassy Suites by Hilton™ has created an amazing resource for families looking to create awesome memories on vacation. On their site you can find special offers, create a personalized web page to communicate specific family details and schedules, book or upgrade rooms and use the Hilton HHonors guest loyalty program! For a family reunion or summer vacation, Embassy Suites is a great fit! I have taken quite a few trips with my kids and have a few tips to share as well! Hopefully these will make your next family vacation a successful, fun time!

Tips for a Successful Family Vacation

successful family vacation

Find fun for the kids

spa time To be completely honest, family vacations might not always be the most fun for the parents. Because let’s face it, the things our kids want to do aren’t always the things we want to do! The thing about kids and memories though is that once you’re together as a family, present and enjoying the activities, the kids will remember it fondly. When we were in Barcelona we made sure to rent little motorized scooters and the boys LOVED it. Recently in San Diego we stayed in the Embassy Suites by Hilton™ San Diego Bay Downtown and we made sure to spend some good family time in the pool. My husband and I made sure to swim with them because we don’t often do that. We even took a boat to land tour which the boys thought was pretty awesome. When you plan a vacation with the kids in mind, they will be entertained and you will be happy that they are creating such fun memories!

Let go of expectations

boys time Perfect vacations don’t exist. There’s always something, especially with kids in tow. And you know what? That’s okay. I think for family vacations we need to let go of the idea that you need to create a perfect experience for your kids. Just be together and have fun! Enjoy each other’s company. If someone is in a crummy mood, just keep on having a good time and they’ll come along. tae's not happy This is my son being so annoyed that I was taking pictures. He was in the crummiest mood and not having any of it. However, the rest of us kept going and once there was some food in his belly, he came around and enjoyed the rest of the day! Tae's Happy

Find the right space

bedroom What’s great about Embassy Suites is that all rooms are a two-room suite. So much space! Who says that parents can’t enjoy themselves a little on vacation too? Embassy Suites The suite at the Embassy Suites was lovely. We all hung out together either on the bed watching movies together or on the couch in the main area, and then when it came time to go to bed, the boys slept on the pull out couch and we got the bedroom. We could hang out together, watch our own movies and have some nice, relaxing adult time. It was the perfect set up! The view from the 11th floor! The view from the 11th floor!

The hotel itself was right downtown which made it walking distance to restaurants and the pier. There was a ton of natural light coming into the building, which made it really inviting and open. We walked from the hotel to dinner and then walked down by the water. Then in the morning, breakfast was included with made-to-order options like omelets and different types of eggs. In the evening, my husband and I enjoyed the free drinks at happy hour! It really was the perfect place for our little family vacation! There was also a little coffee maker in the room and this is where I chose to have my morning coffee. It doesn’t get much better than that, does it? view balcony

Relax

relaxing by the pool It’s okay to not have every minute planned on family vacation. It’s okay to chill in the hotel and make sure you take advantage of all the amenities. It’s okay for your kids to have some down time: watch a movie, hang by the pool, and take advantage of snack time! In our case, we actually took advantage of the free cocktail hour Embassy Suites offers by setting the boys up with a movie while we enjoyed a few drinks. It was lovely. Life can get pretty hectic and busy, vacations are meant to slow down a little bit. Enjoy each other!! We travel a lot with our kids and these are the tips that I live by. Whether it’s overseas or just a couple hours down south, I think anyone can create some awesome family memories on vacation! This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hawaiian Tropic®. The opinions and texts are all mine

A little bit ago I talked about how I tend to get a little overwhelmed with expectations. I get overwhelmed when I hear about ladies who do projects with their kids and plan fun days out and who are very purposeful and organized with activities. I think these women are incredible and there is a part of me that wishes I could get my act together enough to be one of these moms. Unfortunately, I am not, nor do I think I ever will be. So here’s what I’ve planned to do over the summer.Hawaiian Tropic Summer Yep. You saw that right. This, any variation of this. With a book or without a book. In the pool with them or on the side. With my kids screaming & doing cannon balls in the back ground, popsicles outside, BBQ scents wafting through the yard, this will be my summer. However, I am the only white person in my family. I am the only one that really sees the effects of the sun on their skin. My husband is rarely in the sun and my boys just get darker and darker but never burn. So while I occasionally put sunscreen on them, it’s not catastrophic if I do not. For me on the other hand – catastrophic.Hawaiian tropic But you know, it’s hard to find a sunscreen that you like. One that doesn’t feel sticky or greasy. One that covers enough but not too much. And definitely one that is easy to apply. No one wants to sit there sweating while they try to rub in their sun screen! And seriously, who has time for that? The kids are ready to jump in the pool the second they see it, sunscreen needs to be easy to apply! That’s why I have seriously been loving the new Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen. It goes on so smooth, doesn’t feel like you have anything on and smells delicious! I actually don’t mind putting it on at all.applying So now I can feel really good about doing nothing all summer. I will be having a good time getting all the vitamin D that I need but with all the protection I need! Hawaiian Tropic® Silk Hydration™ Weightless Sunscreen is water resistant up to 80 minutes, so I really can just chill by the pool with no interruptions. This is definitely going in my summer beach/pool bag.sunscreen

So if you’re looking for me this summer you will find me by the pool, with my kids, smelling like I just got back from Hawaii. That’s my kind of summer. Who’s with me!

Picking a summer swimsuit is hard, isn’t it? I have the hardest time every year! I want something cute, but not too revealing. Something sexy but not really sexy. And something I can actually get int he pool with and enjoy my kids.

This year a friend from France sent me an amazing suit. They are handmade in France and they are so beautiful. For me, it’s been the perfect blend of sexy but not too revealing. I love the bottoms because they fit so perfect on my bum that nothing is falling out places that it shouldn’t be, but they don’t look like little boys underwear either if you know what I mean…

bikini

It looks darker here than the pictures below because I had just got out of the water. Honestly, it’s hard to get a body shot of yourself in a bikini without feeling really awkward about it. Or at least for me. I am no model and don’t claim to be! But I wanted you to see how well the swimsuit is made and how cute and fun the details all are!

swimsuit

The main material is regular swimsuit material and the sides is made from thread. There is a pretty stitching around the sides and I love the contrast of the orange and pink. They have a lot of beautiful colors too, I love how they are so bright and fun they are! I am all for colors any time of year, but for the summer, they just work.

swimsuit top

The strings wrap around and tie in the front. I like the little tassels in front too. But my favorite part of the suit is the bottoms.

french swimsuit

I just love the way that they’re cut and the way that they fit. I have a hard time finding bottoms, I have a bigger tushie, but the way the cut doesn’t cut into my butt, but just sits nicely. It’s had to describe, but they just fit the best I think I’ve ever had!

12322920_706916482779852_320527511611590512_o

I also love this one. I love the different design for the bottoms and the fun bandeau top. Super cute!

You can check out her styles & like her Facebook page here and check out her website here. It’s all in French, but she speaks English, so feel free to write or comment in English as well!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pure Silk Shave Cream for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Summer equals shorts, skirts, bathing suits, and basically less clothing in general. This doesn’t mean that you have to wear skimpy clothing, not at all, but it’s still hot out and you still aren’t going to want to wear jeans. It can be intimidating after hiding our legs all winter to all of a sudden bust out the shorts, so I’ve got a few pointers today to help you get the confidence you need to rock them.

Tips for Sexy Summer Legs

tips for sexy summer legs

Work out

jcp active wear I know this isn’t an over night fix, but I can’t share all my other tips without at least a nod to fitness. Because none of the other tips will mean anything if you don’t take care of yourself inside & out. Eat healthy, drink lots of water and get moving! It doesn’t have to be hard-core fitness, I’m a huge advocate of finding a way to make fitness activities work for you. I love to play volleyball, so that’s my activity of choice. Do you love pickle ball? Going for a walk or run? What about tennis? Choose something and be active, your legs will thank me later. :)

Get a tan

tan Have you ever heard the phrase “if you can’t tone it, tan it”? Well, it’s pretty accurate! While you are working on your fitness, tan those babies up! You don’t have to sit in the sun (but if you do, make sure you wear sunscreen!), try a fake tan, a spray tan or even leg makeup (sounds crazy, but works amazingly). When your legs look a little bronzed, they look longer, leaner & sexier!

Wear Heels

wear heels I think that it’s no secret that wearing heels elongates your legs and accentuates the toned muscle giving you nice, sculpted legs! I am already pretty tall, so I don’t follow this rule unless I’m with my husband who I can never be taller than (I’m 6′ and he is 6’7″) but for those average sized people, I honestly don’t know why you would wear anything else. Not just because they make your legs look great, but they’re cute and fun!

Get a nice close shave

shaving cream You can do all of the above but if you have hairy legs or even legs with a bunch of pricks and cuts, it’s not a good look. I use Pure Silk Shave Cream for not only a really close shave, but it’s moisturizing as well, so it doesn’t leave your legs dry after a shave. It prevents nicks & cuts and gives you such a nicer shave than just soap or water.

If you don’t believe me, try it yourself! For a limited time only, grab the coupon on 7/10 to get Pure Silk Shave Cream at CVS! Use $.50 off 1 coupon on RedPlum and $1.00 off 1 CVS mobile app And you’ve got yourself a $1.50 can! No CVS near you, no problem. It can also be found at Walgreens for $1.39 and use a $.50 off 1 item coupon from RepLum and you’ve got yourself a $.89 can! You’ve gotta grab these before 7/10, so if you’re wondering if I really mean it, there is no harm done is trying the product yourself for a nice, close, sexy shave for your beautiful legs this summer!

So what do you think of my list? What would you add? Are you embracing shorts season?

Catch up from last weeks here!

ma nouvelle mode love story

I made it through the family cruise without having to tell anyone. But, like I mentioned, it had to happen at some point. Tyson had talked me out of running away. He obviously saw the stupidity in my plan and helped me see that although it will be hard, I will get through it and when I do, it’ll be okay. However, at this moment I was still in the thick of it and all that happy ending stuff was hard to believe.

DM and I had talked, he wanted to be a part of it, he loved me, but we weren’t together. We weren’t engaged. We didn’t want to do that just because of the baby. We didn’t want to have a shot gun wedding. We wanted to get married on our own terms. I wanted to marry him. I knew that from a while ago. But I didn’t want to be married to him if he didn’t want to marry me. So I left it in his hands.

Now my parents. My parents love me and support me. They are kind, loving people however, this wasn’t in their life plan. To have a daughter get pregnant before marriage. I don’t blame them, this wasn’t in my life plan either. And I know some people won’t agree with me here, and that’s okay. I still believe that sex was intended for marriage. I believe that within those confines, it’s’ a beautiful, awesome thing. Outside of it, it can cause problems and tear you apart. I learned that the hard way.

I was in my room and I called my mom up. I knew she’d be easier than my dad. I had my head in the pillow and I just kinda blurted it out. Honestly, it’s all such a blur. I told her, she was upset, she went downstairs and told me dad and then he came up and we all talked. It wasn’t a happy talk it was a tough, I-hate-my-life talk.

They made it their mission to tell the rest of the family so that I didn’t have to. It wasn’t what they would have chosen for their daughter. It wasn’t how they raised me. They were disappointed. But the way the dropped all that pain and hurt and just loved and supported me was out of this world. I am very appreciative to have the parents I do.

There are some details that I’ll keep private mainly because they’re hard to explain over a keyboard and because my husband would kill me if I shared them. I’m an overshar-er and he reigns me in. But if you ever meet me in person and are curious to know, go ahead and ask and I’ll probably tell you.

It was about a month after I found out that I was pregnant and DM hadn’t made any moves. We were together again… I guess.. but that was it. nd really, after everything we’d been through and now a baby, if he didn’t know by now, he’d never know. Crap or get off the pot! I knew I had to step back and give him time.

It was about 3 days and these were one of the hardest of my life too. Lots of prayer time, lots of reflection. There were two things that would happen. He would say he loves me and we’d get married or he’d say he didn’t want to marry me and I would be a single mom. I had to wrestle with the idea of being a single mom for those couple days and it was hard. But I really knew that the Lord had the best plan for my life. I really knew that if he came back and said he didn’t want to marry me, than that was the better option. Because of course at this time that’s what I wanted. But I also didn’t want to be in a marriage against the Lord’s will. Or be married to a man I really shouldn’t be. So I took my hands out of the situation (which is super hard for me) and left it up to DM.

He wanted to marry me.

On the way home from looking at rings he wrote me a little note. It read:

Will you marry me? Check the right box.

  • Yes
  • No
  • Maybe

Let’s just say I didn’t marry the most romantic man on the planet but I did marry a really, really good one. He loves me and he loves me well. I know I have his whole heart and he’d do almost anything for me. As long as I’m not too ridiculous for me.

Our son was born March 23rd, 2007 and I look at that huge 9-year-old now and I don’t know what I’d do without him. He is such a blessing and I am so honored to be his momma, even if he came about in an difficult way.

Same with my marriage. Let me tell you, it isn’t easy. I love that man with all my heart but our marriage has been hard. I hesitate to write about it because no one likes to hear about the negative things. But then on the flip side I want to write about it because so often on social media we see these lovey dovey couples all over the place and it’s easy to think “man what’s wrong with our marriage?”

I won’t write more about it now, but if you have a difficult marriage, just know you are not alone. Marriage is hard, I don’t care who you are. Maybe easier for some, but if it is hard, that’s okay. It’s okay to fight for something. It’s okay to have to work hard to make it work. It’s tiring. It’s exhausting. But it’s so, so worth it.

That’s basically the end of our love story! I married him, we moved to France and had another baby and lived happily ever after (minus all the hard, nasty stuff! lol!) July 28th marks 9 years of marriage with my man and I still feel giddy about him being mine. I still think he’s hot and I still am proud to stand next to him in life!

I’m going to see if I can share his side of the story to create another installment or two of the love story. I also am really curious to hear it! Also, leave in the comments if you’d like to read more about marriage on the blog.

Summer is here!

It’s not going nearly as awesome as I envisioned it, life balance is hard, isn’t it? My kids are more bored than I anticipated and I haven’t been able to be the mom I’d like to be. However, the summer is still young, and I know we’ll do better. I also know it’s okay to allow my kids to be bored, I was just hoping it wouldn’t be as much as it has been.

We have some seriously hot weather coming up around here, in the 100’s over the weekend which involves lots of pool time and lots of pool time involves lots of chlorine which means we need to take extra efforts to take care of our skin. I’m sure, like a lot of you guys, we spend a lot of time outdoors and in the sun during the summer which can take a toll on our skin. I know I often remember to make sure my kids are lathered up but somehow I often forget about my own!

I don’t go in the pool as often as my kids do, but I certainly am out by the pool hanging out and enjoying the sun, so my skin is definitely still seeing the effects of it. So I’ve got a few tips on how us moms can take care of our skin this summer too!

Caring for Dry Skin in the Summer

caring for dry skin in the summer

My tips are super simple and practical, as always, because I know most of you guys are moms or busy women with other things to do than think about moisturizing your skin! However, with these tips, you’ll be able to have great skin & keep up with your daily life.

Use a Foot Cream

Who has time for a pedicure every couple weeks? Who can afford them? I know I can’t but I still want to wear sandals all summer! My feet can get pretty rough around the heels, but I’ve found that if I apply Amlactin® foot cream my feet are soft as a baby in the morning! It helps prevents plots and cracks & heal calluses. It’s a great tip & perfect for fresh summer feet!

Body Cream at Night

Your body is rejuvenating at night and it’s a perfect time to kinda help it out. Add some Amlactin® Hydrating Body Cream to your rough spots at night — elbows, knees, shoulders — and in the morning they will be noticeably softened. Amlactin has a patented ULTRAPLEX® formula gently exfoliates and is clinically proven to deeply hydrate. It’s a perfect way to rejuvenate your skin through the night while you’re sleeping – multitasking!!

Stay Hydrated

It’s super important, specially in the heat, to stay hydrated. The best thing you can do for your skin is keep it healthy inside and out. Dry a lot of water this summer and try to lay off of the sodas and sugary drinks. This will help your body and skin in more way than one!

Apply Lotion after Swimming

lotion after swimming

Pool, lake, or beach water can seriously dry out your skin. So much so that your skin even feels tight and dry after a day by the pool. A great way to counteract this is by rinsing off the pool, beach, or lake water & applying some daily lotion. Your skin will soak it up and you won’t feel the negative affects of the day by or in the water. Even if you start to get a little tan, the lotion will help your skin stay healthy in the process.

There you have it! Aren’t they super simple, helpful tips? I sure hope so!

Amlactin wants you to see for yourself how good your skin can feel after using their products! Follow these steps to enter my Soft Skin Giveaway and win some products to try for FREE!

  1. Visit amlactin.com and look at each of their products.

August. August was the last time I updated my love story! You guys, my bad. I know a lot of you have asked about it, so here we go. I’m continuing it!

I last left you pregnant at Panda Express telling the baby daddy that it was his even after not talking to him in 3 weeks. Get caught up on that here.

ma nouvelle mode love story

We talked about baby names, whether we cared if it was a boy or a girl, laughed at the fact that this was happening and for a small moment in time, things were okay. There weren’t parents to tell, responsibilities to handle or decisions to make. It was just me and him and now the thought of a new little creature entering the picture.

Then reality kicked in. I had to leave at 4:30 am to head to the airport with my entire family to go to Alaska on a cruise. My family is very large and very loving but also very conservative. Having a baby before you’re married isn’t exactly the way they would like their kids to do things. Heck, it wasn’t the way I wanted to do things either, but there I was.

I got up and peed on yet another stick hoping, praying, that this one would tell me otherwise. That this would all become just a really bad dream and it would all go away.

**Hindsight is indeed 20/20 because I wouldn’t change that little man (who is now 9 years old & going into 4th grade!) and the husband I have for anything in the world. Those first months were some of the hardest in my life, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t change them for anything.**

Nope. Still pregnant. And they say that your morning pee is the most accurate so I was officially screwed. This was happening and I had idea what to do about it. I wasn’t with DM (the daddy, read here), I wasn’t ready to be a mom, especially a single mom at that, and I had no plans for my future. That’s it… I need a plan! I know, I’ll run away and live on my own until I can figure out what to do about this. Maybe I’ll have the baby and give it up for adoption, then come back. Hmm… that might be hard, but I could do it. That’s it, I’ll run away.

Now, obviously you don’t think very straight in situations like these. Or I didn’t at least. Somehow I had it in my head that I needed run away. That that would solve my problems. I didn’t think it through or talk it through, I just went with it.

That morning, somewhere en route to Alaska with my entire extended family, I just broke down. In the middle of the airport I sat there and cried. I cried about what I was going to do, the situation I got myself into, and the millions of unknowns of my future. Then my cousin walked up.

Tyson, I changed all names in this story until now. Because Tyson was so special. He was just such a special, loving, generous, caring person. He came over to me and sat down next to me and started asking me what went wrong.

Tyson: Nat, (he was the only one that could call me Nat), talk to me! You can talk to me, it can’t be that bad.

Me: It’s bad, Ty. It’s really bad. I can’t tell you.

Tyson: It can’t be that bad, surely. Just tell me, I can help you.

Me: You don’t understand, it’s really big. It’s a big deal, Ty.

Tyson: That’s okay! It can’t be as bad as you’re thinking.

Me: I’m pregnant.

Tyson: …. Yep, that’s big.

Me: Waaaahhhhh!!!! **Bursts into tears** I’m running away. I’m going to leave. I can’t do this. I can’t be here, I can’t have a baby. I’m gonna run away.

Tyson: You’re not going anywhere. You’re fine. This will be hard, but you have a lot of family that loves you. People that will help you. It’ll be hard to tell them and get through this part, but when you do, you’ll be okay. And we’ll all be here for you.

Let me just say, it’s pretty incredible how the Lord works. Tyson was there for me. He was exactly what I needed in this difficult time. I could talk to him and he protected me. He encouraged me to stay without pointing out how ridiculous my plan of running away was. I wasn’t ready to tell my family, especially on this lovely vacation, and he made sure to cover for me all week. He was incredible. Tyson passed away 4 years later and these precious memories I carry with my always.

The week went by fine. I was a mess, but we made it, no one figured it out. With Tyson and his girlfriend by my side, helping me and protecting me from questions like “why I are you drinking decaf coffee?” I did it. However, the fact remained that I still had to tell people. I still had to face the fire.

And that’s what I’ll write about next time. :)

So I have an embarrassing story. One that most people might shy away from telling. But not me! I feel like my embarrassing stories might somehow make someone else feel better about their life and situation. So I’m going to tell it. And I hope you’re laughing with me as you read.

A couple weeks ago we had a little dinner with the women in my Bible study group. Let me start by saying these women are amazing. Amazing moms, amazing friends, amazing people. They have walked through things with me and with each other in very loving, godly ways. I admire these ladies and they are good friends.

However, this particular Monday evening, I must have been feeling a little overwhelmed. Well, I know I was. My life has been quite overwhelming for the last couple months, and I’ve been just getting by in general. At dinner, we decided to share something fun for summer. It could be a recipe, fun activities, ideas to do — whatever you can think of. Well, I’m not too great at thinking of any of those things, let alone planning enough in advance to bring something to the dinner. I am a hot mess through and through and that is what I do best.

It started with one mom sharing how she makes summer lists with her kids and family and they check them off in the summer. They were cute ideas and I was like “oh maybe that’s something I could do!” She talked about how she put things on the list that she knew they’d do, so that it made it easier for her. That seems doable. I could do that.

Then another mom started talking. It was the same type of thing, sharing ideas of what to do in the summer. Different activities and ideas. This mom is a good friend and her kids are older than mine. They are good, well-behaved, lovely people so obviously I look to her in how her and her husband have been raising them.

I don’t know where it happened. At what point I started to feel overwhelmed. Maybe it was the point where they passed these papers around to show the summer activities and how they track it. Maybe it was me slowly realizing that there was no way I could handle something like that this summer. Or any summer for that matter. Whatever it was, I felt the pressure rising from my stomach, to my chest, all the way up to my eyes. I felt like I was going to break out in tears for early no particular reason, and you guys, I couldn’t stop it.

I remember holding the papers that had been passed around (she had made copies for everyone of course), waiving them, looking around the table and asking myself — partially out loud — is this for real? Do people really live like this? Do people really have their acts together enough to do this? Is anyone else drowning right now? No? Just me then. Okay.

So what happens next is the most embarrassing part. I tried to talk. I tried to ask if everyone did this sort of thing. If I was a bad, lazy mom for not being able to get my act together. But as I tried to talk, I got all choked up. I couldn’t contain it any longer. I started to cry right there at the table at Macaroni Grill. Yep, tears down my face and everything.

I realized that although it was already pretty bad, it wasn’t going to get any better. I needed to leave before I made a complete fool out of myself. (too late, maybe?) I got up and in a tear-filled, choked up voice I muttered out something along the lines of “I’m sorry, I can’t, I’m sorry. I’m just… I gotta go.” And I walked out.

Yep. Mom/friend/person of the year right here. To make matters worse, this isn’t the first (nor the last, I suppose) that life has gotten the best of me in a public place. Luckily, it takes more than that to embarrass me, and as bad as it was, I’m okay with being human.

Even though I lost my cool there for a second, I’m okay. I’m okay with not having it all together. I’m okay with not planning activities for my kids. I’m okay with not making lists and not checking them off. I’m okay with allowing my kids to be lazy in the summer and to not be their personal cruise director. I’m okay with the way I have to do things.

In the interest of being totally honest here, I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I wish I had it together. Sometimes I wish I was the mom that could do it all. I wish my kids weren’t dirty when we left the house and occasionally wore matching clothes. That they weren’t late to school and never missed something because mom forgot. I wish our house functioned like a well-oiled machine and that I made dinner every night. And yet, this is not my reality.

I am coming to grips with the way God made me. I don’t have it all together. I am not organized. I drop the ball on occasion, more than I would like, and I probably have to work harder than most to function on a semi-normal basis. It’s really okay. This is the way my kids are being raised. I can’t change who I am. I can work hard on the things I need to get better at, but I can’t be someone I’m not.

So this summer we are gonna lounge by the pool, play basketball in the front yard, play with Legos, swim at friends houses and have friends come to ours. We’ll go to the beach, the park, and sometimes not go anywhere at all. We’re not going to go on fancy vacations or mark off items on a list. We’re not going to have plans for our days and the boys might watch TV until 11. The boys will entertain themselves and it will not be my job to create fun for them.

And you know what, we’re probably all gonna be okay.

If you can relate to me and my story, please be encouraged. You’re okay. Even as a hot mess, loving your kids and being a family in a way only your family can be is the most important. Not being a family like anyone else’s family. Comparison is the their of joy. Be who you are. Be the family you are. Make the best of whatever life has thrown your way.

However, know your limits. This is why when people ask me if I want three kids, they get a solid NO. Even if that third kid was a beautiful little girl.

I have shared about how I like to color my hair at home before. I do it because it’s easier, cheaper, and I control the color. I also absolutely adore Madison Reed hair color, the way my hair feels when I use it and how vibrant the color is, and it’s nice to have such awesome product and do it yourself. I used to use drug store brands, but ever since being introduced to Madison Reed, I never went back!

hair color at home

So I actually made one of those fast motion videos of me coloring my hair so you can get an idea of what it looks like to do this at home. I actually mix two colors to get what I want, so it might be a little different for you, but the separating of the hair and all that would look the same. I use Venezia Brown and Trieste Red together to get the color I want. I’ve been really happy with it so far!

In the video I show you how I separate my hair out to color it and how I apply the color. It’s best if you have someone either do it for you (which isn’t always available, hence the video showing how to do it yourself), or at least have someone check to make sure that you got all the spots needed. In this video I only colored my roots, but you’d just extend the color through the ends if you wanted to.

Okay, so without further adieu, here’s my little video!

Do you color your hair at home? Was this video helpful for you at all? Let me know in the comments!

I have been missing for a while now. I mean, I’m around. I’m on Instagram and Facebook. I took a trip to Europe and it was nothing short of epic. But I wasn’t here blogging. It’s just that I’m kinda over it.

At the core of what I have been doing at a blogger, I still love it. I love sharing products with you guys and inspiring you to feel beautiful. To know your worth. I hope some of my posts have helped some people because this world is tough. But the blogging world has changed. And it just doesn’t suit me as much anymore.

See since the birth of Pinterest and Instagram we have created a level of perfection that is just expected. Perfect birthday parties whether the kid wants it or not. Perfect makeup that never creases or cakes. Perfect boho-chic hair that stays all day and always looks like the perfect blend of messy, I-meant-to-do-this style. Outfits that are always on point, with perfect lighting, and blurred background. And those inspirational looks are beautiful. I even pin hairstyles, outfits and makeup looks like those.

But those aren’t real life. We don’t always have good lighting. Sometimes hairstyles fall or look messy. Sometimes you have to rub out your makeup because it cakes a little in your wrinkles (just me?). And sometimes you wear sweats to take your kids to school because putting on real clothes was just.too.much.

I don’t hire professional photographers to take outfits pictures. I bribe my husband or kids to snap one for me and I’m lucky if it’s straight and in focus. Anything else is pushing it. I like to look and feel cute but my outfits are rarely perfectly on point. I always forget earrings or there’s a stain on the front or I’m sweating more than those perfect Pinterest pictures show.

real life

#Brothers Lil man got pinched. It was dramatic. :|

I like doing my makeup. I like wearing makeup. I like being creative with it too. But it’s not perfect. There’s no resemblance to any Kardashian. It’s just fun to look a little better than normal sometimes. And for me, it’s a way to be artistic and try new things.

But I love you guys. I love my readers that comment here or comment on my Facebook or Instagram posts. I love developing relationships with people, encouraging each other and sharing each other’s stories. That’s what I love about blogging. It seems like it’s all slipped away. Like it’s one big popularity contest that I really don’t care to win.

And I love when readers say things like “but you’re real! I would rather read someone who is being real than a perfectly posed picture!” And I agree. That’s what I would rather read too. Except that we live in a very visually perfect world. And if you see a ‘real’ picture next to a perfect picture, which would you pin? I think if we’re all being honest, we know which one we’d choose.

I’m still going to be here. But I guess I’m writing this as a type of warning of sorts? I am going to be real. I will post pictures that are really me. That aren’t professionally taken. That represent what it’s like to be {hot mess of a} mom. Because that’s exactly what I am. I don’t have my act together, I mess up a lot, and I really never look perfect.

But I love you guys, so let’s keep this party going!
