I cannot believe that this weekend is the Fourth of July. I just cannot. I need to stop saying things like that because I sound like a little old lady. “Time flies and before ya know it, you’re over here like me!” (In my best granny voice) But seriously, summer is in full swing and one of my favorite things about summer has got to be all the get togethers. The outdoor BBQ’s, family dinners, and celebrations. It’s definitely my jam.

Now, my husband, as you might know, isn’t American. Although he can respect the holiday, it doesn’t mean as much to him. He still likes to celebrate with us and he brings a little bit of his flavor along with him. And I love it!

4th of July necessities

See, he loves music. He plays it when he gets ready, always takes time in the car to turn it on before we drive, even if it’s just a 5 minute drive (which actually bugs the heck out of me, let’s just GO!) and he likes to play it in our house. So when holidays and parties come up, he busts out his speaker.

Monster sent us the new Monster SuperStar speak to try and it’s awesome. It’s the worlds smallest Bluetooth speaker so it’s perfect to take with you for all those summer parties. Even though the speaker is smaller than most part phones (specially mine, the ginormous iPhone 6+!) but it still packs the punch of a full size speaker. It is water resistant, so blast that baby by the pool! Available in neon blue, neon pink, neon green, or gray you can find this awesome speaker at Walmart.

Monster SuperStar

Now, Monster sent me the SuperStar to try out and I loved it so much that I wanted to make sure one lucky reader gets one too! Head over to my Instagram and enter to win there! The giveaway will close Friday, so go enter now!

You all know I’m a big lover of Stitch Fix. This post is not paid, just me loving on a company.

A couple weeks ago they asked me to come down to LA to be a client at a vendor appreciation event to share why I love the company. I spoke on a simple panel with three other women and it was fabulous. I just love pretty much everything they do! I thought I’d share a little about the event and then my fun boxes I got!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a few of the pictures. We showed up, got ready and headed up to the rooftop of the Ace, where we were staying. It was so nice, I had brought my husband along, such a fun, free date night!

Stitch Fix event

Now, my husband had just gotten home from France on the Tuesday before this event, so it was just what we needed! We got to get all dressed up and feel fancy without a kid in sight! Well, one of our kids in sight anyway. They were being perfectly taken care of by their grandparents. #Godblessgrandparents

Stitch Fix

Isn’t the view beautiful? I have always dreamed of living in the city. I feel like I’m a city girl at heart. Maybe not with kids, but if I were single or married without kids, I think this would be the life for me. However, I do have kids, and I wouldn’t change that for the world, so my city life will have to be lived through one night parties and getaways. I’m okay with that.

Like I said I sat with three fabulous ladies and answered a few questions about why we love Stitch Fix, how we use it, why it works for us and fun stuff like that. I didn’t prep or know any questions before hand, but you know what, it was okay. I love it so much that it all flows naturally for me. I also don’t mind speaking in front of people, so it worked!

Stitch Fix event

They so kindly gave me a fix as a way to say thank you for coming out, because like I mentioned, this wasn’t a paid event. I came for the love of the company! I put together a little video with everything I got in that fix as well as my regular fix that came in the mail a week later!

Here’s a sneak peak of the styles I got!

I have a suspicious feeling that this summer is gonna be hecka hot. Like it’s June and we’re already hitting the 100’s. Ain’t nobody got time to mess around with heat on their hair! This style is perfect. Two Dutch braids and a simple bun in the back. You can obviously switch this up to make it work for you better. Like swapping out that bun for a messy bun so you’re done faster. Or you can mix up the braids like one French, one Dutch, or a twist and a Dutch braid, or even throw a fishtail in there. The options are endless!

Double Braided Updo

Double Dutch braided updo

You don’t need any special products for this look either. All you need is a big elastic, some small ones, a teaser comb and bobby pins of course. If you can braid, you can do this style! I, of course, used some dry shampoo because, well, I always use dry shampoo! My favorites are Big Sexy Hair or Klorane.

Double Dutch braided updo

Personally I think this look is a little more polished and I’m not really that polished of a girl. So I think next time I will try it with a messy bun. I think that suits me more and it’s faster to get done! What do you think?

So summer is officially here, it’s H.O.T. and the fourth of July is next weekend. What does that mean? It’s time to whip up some sand pudding! This recipe has been one of the most popular on my blog to date! Rightly so, it’s delicious, easy and fun and not to mention that you don’t have to use an oven. Which is a total WIN for the summer.

easy sand pudding

I don’t know why I never thought of this before, but I made a YouTube tutorial for sand pudding! I usually share makeup, beauty and hair stuff, but I thought it would be fun to branch out a little and because this recipe is so popular, I thought it would be a good place to start!

1 pkg Vanilla Wafers
3 or 4 Oreos
8 oz Cream Cheese
1/4 C Butter
2/3 C powdered sugar
2 small pkgs French Vanilla pudding mix
2 3/4 C Milk
12 oz Cool Whip

Crush Oreos and Vanilla Wafers in a food processor. In a separate bowl, cream together softened 8 oz cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. In a different bowl, mix the instant pudding with the milk.  Add the pudding mixture to the cream cheese mixture. Gently fold in the cool whip. Layer into buckets starting with pudding, sand, pudding etc. ending with a layer of sand. Finish off with a cute shovel for a serving spoon!

You can double the recipe if you have two buckets or a large one like in this video (although I didn’t double it here, I could have). If you want to make it ahead of time, make the sand and the pudding portions separately and then assemble the day of the event. If you assemble too early the pudding with make the sand mushy.

We bought a sand bucket specifically for this recipe and have never used it outside. It’s a fun family favorite!

I hope you get a chance to make this sand pudding this summer and bring it to a fun event! I promise it will be a big hit!

I love dressing up for date night. I love any excuse to get a little extra fancy. Because let’s face it – on the daily I am wearing jeans & a tee or tank, basically the most comfortable, cool thing I can find that’s still cute. I don’t wear yoga pants, mainly because I’m too hot but also because even though I work from home, I like to make a point to still get dressed and look decent. Not really because I feel like I have to, but I just feel more ready to get work done, be productive and I feel better about myself!

Anyway, my daily makeup routine is really simple, if anything at all. Makeup is what I skimp on throughout the week — if I don’t have a reason to wear it, I will probably only throw on mascara. So when date night or girls night rolls around, I like to get a little dolled up!

A fun part of being a blogger is that sometimes I get a few samples here and there to try out! And it’s only right if I share those with you guys as well! Butter LONDON, probably best known for their amazing nail polishes, sent me a few samples to try. When I saw the amazing red lip crayon, I knew it would be perfect for date night! I create a video with a simple date night look using these butter LONDON products. And the verdict – I love them!

Date Night Makeup Look with butter LONDON

butter london date night makeup

I think my favorite product in the bunch had to be the lip crayon. (A close second behind the beautiful nail polish!) The main reason I loved it was because of the color. It lasted as long as a wore it and didn’t bleed and felt like… well, butter! But the color – just WOW. It’s a perfect blend between orange and red and it just screams hot summer date! Oh and the nail polish is the same color as the lip crayon. So fun!

You can watch the date night makeup tutorial below and subscribe to my YouTube channel here for more videos! I’d love to have you!

Here are the products I used:

Now, I am a huge fan of bright lip colors so this one is a no brainer for me! What about you guys? Is this a color you’d rock? Let me know what you think and if you’ll try these products in the comments!

Okay, so I’m getting a late start on life in general today, please forgive me! I got my video all done, edited and uploaded but didn’t write the post to go with it! Then my husband and I headed down to Downtown LA for a Stitch Fix event/date night. And it was awesome. I’ll share more on that a little later this week.

Anyway, today I have 15 heat-less hairstyles for you to try out this summer! Because it’s already heating up around here and I know I am not going to have time for any kind of heat with my hair. But ponytails all day everyday just don’t get it either. So we’ve got French braids, rope braids, Dutch braids, and regular braids so there is something for everyone!

15 Heatless Hairstyles

15 heatless hairstyles

These no heat hairstyles are very simple. I wanted to make them practical so that when you’re on the go you can throw your hair together is 10 to 15 minutes, no heat and still look fly. It will be nice to have these no heat hairstyles on hand during these hot summer months!

Here are the no heat hairstyles in order of how they are in the video. You can hop over to my YouTube channel and subscribe if you’d like, I do share videos there that I don’t always share on the blog, like this date night makeup look from last week.

  1. Low braided Bun – 1:47
  2. Hanging side braid – 2:33
  3. Hanging braid with side pony – 3:20
  4. Messy Top Knot – 3:40
  5. Wrap around braid – 4:13
  6. Wrap around braided bun – 5:21
  7. Dutch braided ponytail – 5:33
  8. Two hippie side braids – 6:46
  9. Sweeping side part – 7:26
  10. French braided 1/2 up – 7:47
  11. French braided ponytail – 8:15
  12. Headband with messy bun – 8:26
  13. Simple headband – 9:02
  14. Headband with low messy bun – 9:18
  15. Rope braided bun- 9:37

So there you have it! 15 no heat hairstyles and all of them are in a video under 11 minutes! I was pretty proud of myself for that feat, personally. I thought the video was going to be something like 20 minutes long! If you have your own no heat hairstyles, make sure you do share! I’m always looking for new ideas!

Thanks for tuning in, I’m always happy to have you guys here!! Have a great Friday & weekend!

It’s funny how trends work in fashion, one second a fox is all the rave and you can find them stamped on everything from onesies to pillow cases and then all of a sudden their out! What’s the next big thing going to be? I’ve never been much of a trend-spotter, if I’m being completely honest, I’m more a find-what’s-cute-that-I-like-that’s-not-completely-out-of-style kinda of girl. Then I make it work for me. I am happy being this way because trends come and go, but timeless, good quality pieces stand the test of time!

However, there are always fun trends that come up that you want to get in on. I thought the foxes were adorable, but have you seen all the flamingos everywhere lately? I love it! I was shopping for a little baby girl outfit for a baby shower when I saw this adorable two-piece set (and bought it of course!) Now it could be that little girl outfits are so fun to shop for considering that I have two boys, but I started to kind of see a flamingo trend going on. And I liked it. Hot pink is always fun and while this trend can be done the wrong way (think flamingos on sticks posted in someone’s front yard) it has too many right ways not to highlight! So today I put together some of my favorite picks from this flamingo trend.

Flamingo Fashion

flamingo fashion

So tell me, are you on board with this fashion trend? Have you already incorporated it into your life or are like me, just now looking for a way? I’ve got my eye on that Strut your Stuff Tote, so cute! Or maybe you’ve loved flamingos long before all the cool kids were doing it, just make sure you don’t have those flamingos tucked in your front yard!

French pharmacy products are all the rave, aren’t they? As they should be, it’s so much fun (and a tad overwhelming!) shopping in a French pharmacy. They have everything from baby formula to hair care and it’s like candy land for beauty aficionados! However, as with most things in life, I didn’t fully appreciate it until it’s gone and now that we’re not living in France anymore, I don’t have these products at my fingertips. Bummer. Luckily for you and me, most of these products can now be either found stateside or ordered off the all-mighty Amazon!

French Pharmacy Products and where to find them in America

So today I thought it would be fun to not only share what French pharmacy products I love but where to find them in the States. If I can’t find the exact product, I will show you where to find dupes that work just as well. We Americans have our beauty secrets too, right ladies? I thought so. Let’s do this.

Green Clay – Argile Verte

French pharmacy products - green clay

This green clay is versatile and so fun to play around with. You can do anything from put it in your bath, mix it up for a facial or even a hair mask. Shailene Woodley even drinks the stuff! I have not yet been that brave (and don’t think I will be) but you definitely have options when it comes to this beauty staple. I mixed it with floral water the other day for a face mask before bed.  The clay is great for pulling out the impurities in our skin and tightening pores. You can also mix it with some oil and honey for a hydrating hair mask!

So where do you buy the American version of this French pharmacy staple? You can find French Green Clay on Amazon for just $16 or over at Mountain Rose Herbs for $11. These are both great options and you don’t have to spring for a plane ticket to France! Although, let’s be honest, that’s a great option too!

Avène Thermal Water Spray

French Pharmacy products - Avene thermal water spray

They have multiple brands that are all the same idea, but thermal spring water spring is a great buy. I just saw that you can actually buy this particular brand from Drugstore.com! This product is great for dry or sensitive skin and is especially useful in the hot summer months. Spritz it on your face before moisturizer to balance your pH level and help your products last longer or spray it all over after a day in the sun. It’s a lightweight refreshing spray that you can get a lot of use out of!

Now, like I mentioned, you can buy Avène at Drugstore.com but there are other brands as well. La Roche-Posay can be purchased at ULTA and Vichy Eau Thermale Thermal Spa Water can be purchased on Amazon. Take your pick!

Bioderma

French pharmacy products -Bioderma

I love, love, love this stuff. It’s the best. This micelle solution can wipe off makeup in just one swipe all the while not upsetting sensitive skin types. It’s fragrance-free, soothes irritated skin and doesn’t have to be rinsed off. I bought this regularly while in France and the only unfortunate thing is that here it costs quite a bit more. You can find it on Amazon or on Beautylish. If you don’t have this one, it’s a great product to add to your beauty repertoire!

Nuxe Rêve de Miel

French pharmacy products - rêve de miel

This is a lip balm that is out of this world. The name translates to “honey dream” and that’s exactly what it is – a dream! I saw it while I was in France as I was loading up on my French pharmacy goodies and I thought, what the heck, I’ll give it a try. And oh my goodness, I’m so glad I did! It goes on nice and thick but isn’t sticky. It lasts a long time, even through eating and drinking. It hydrates your lips and they feel great. Not to mention it tastes wonderful! Nuxe is now in the States too, so you can just grab this fabulous product online! The unfortunate thing is that it’s a heck of a lot more expensive. I think I paid 9 euros (around $10) for it and it’s going for a whopping $19 online. It’s actually going for the same on Amazon as well. I guess we can get French beauty products, it’s just gonna cost us. I’m thinking that plane ticket is looking better and better!

Klorane Dry Shampoo

Chlorine Dry Shampoo

You guys know I love dry shampoo. I don’t wash my hair nearly as much as ‘normal’ suggests I should so dry shampoo is a must for me. I like this Klorane brand because of how my hair feels after I use it. The regular dry shampoo that I use – Big Sexy Hair – is great and volumizing, but it does leave a residue. This dry shampoo works and actually leaves your hair soft! How do the French do it??

It can be found on Amazon but also at Drugstore.com, Sephora and Dermstore. Even Birchbox has carried it! I still do love and use my Big Sexy Hair, but this French beauty staple is now in the rotation!

Embryolisse

Embryolisse

I discovered this French pharmacy product a while ago before I even knew French pharmacies were something to write home about. I found it at The Makeup Show in LA where all the professional artists were raving about it. Turns out it’s a great primer, moisturizer, and makeup remover! It claims to restore our natural glow and give a boost to tired, dehydrated skin. Um… YES PLEASE. I admit I haven’t used this a lot lately, but when I’m done writing this post, I’m gonna bust it out. This tired skin needs a boost!

As you might have guessed, Embryolisse is widely available in the States now! You can find it at Sephora, on Amazon, Dermstore or even on their own site.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

This baby is a true triple threat. It is “a unique combination of 30 percent precious plant oils and vitamin E to nourish, repair and soften your face, body and hair.” Once again, yes please. One product (albeit not a cheap one) can be used a multitude of ways that everyone raves about? Sounds good to me. I must admit, I haven’t tried this one yet, but I just saw that it is now available at Target. Yep, you read that right, good ‘ole Tarjey. Somehow that takes some of the French charm out of it, but hey, at least it’s readily available. It’s also available on Amazon (because what isn’t available on Amazon?), Dermstore, and even Walgreens. So I guess that plane ticket isn’t needed after all.

It’s funny how somehow other countries ‘beauty secrets’ or products or whatever it is becomes a novelty to us. But you know what, it’s the same for them. Some things Americans do others dream about, so really it’s all relative! These are the French pharmacy products that I have tried and love (with the exception of the Huile Prodigieuse which I intend to try soon!) so I wanted to share them with you. Maybe you’ll find one you can’t live without as well! Either way, I hope this was at least a fun post to read!

Have a great day and happy shopping! :)

Remember the app DripThat that I posted about earlier this week? I shared an easy day to night makeup look in some simple photos on the DripThat platform! I hope you liked the tutorial.

If you’re new to DripThat, it’s a photo/video sharing app. You can share one photo or video or a series of photos and videos all at once or over a period of time. I’ve been using it to share some fun, simple beauty tutorials. Since as I am writing this, I am packing my entire life to move back to America, I (appropriately) have some lovely bags under my eyes. Today I thought it would be fun to share how to quickly and simply cover up those bags!

Makeup for Tired Eyes

You can download the DripThat app here and find me at MaNouvelleMode to see the makeup for tired eyes tutorial! It’s a series of 18 pictures that I shared over a period of a couple of hours. Right now you can see them all at once since they’ve all been dripped.

After you download the app, be sure to follow me to see some more simple beauty tutorials & little tidbits of my life! I plan to share some simple summer hair tutorials on DripThat as the weather starts to heat up.

You can find more information about DripThat on Facebook and Twitter!

Social media is a fun thing, isn’t it? It’s such a cool thing that such a big world can be so connected. Yes, there can be negative sides of the whole thing, but I choose to see the good in it. I am in contact with friends I knew from ages ago, I live in another country and am able to stay in touch with my family, and I get to use it all for work! It’s definitely got more good points than bad.

It’s actually great to have social media in blogging. For me, I like it because I get to connect with so many awesome people. Readers, other bloggers, family, friends — it’s so fun! Now there’s a new site on the scene, DripThat. I have never been one of the firsts to try anything. I was late to some other social media platforms, but with DripThat I’m in on it at the beginning and I’m finding it to be a great way to share quick ideas on my beauty tips!

Here’s what I love about DripThat. You can share series of posts over a period of time. For example, I shared this day to night makeup look over on DripThat. I started with the products I used and had a series of 7 photos. I set it to send out the photos — drip them if you will — over a period of 35 minutes. Then people that follow me on the app can see the makeup tutorial unfold! You can do this with videos as well.

This is the before and after day to night makeup look and there are basically four simple steps to follow. Head over to download DripThat and follow me at MaNouvelleMode to see the full tutorial!

This tutorial that I shared is public so anyone on DripThat can see it; however, you can create Drips that are private and share them with whoever you want to share them with. I like this, because as much as I share on the blog, I try not to over share, and it would be nice to be able to direct posts to particular people.

DripThat is also on Facebook and Twitter so you can always check them out over there. Download the app, chat with users, get your friends on board and have fun with it!
