Summer can take its toll on our skin & hair. So much sun, chlorine, salt water and more. I also know that I wear my hair up a lot more during the summer because it’s just too hot to deal most days, am I right? So I wanted to share some simple tips for you to get that silky smooth hair for fall!
How to revive your hair for fall
Use a good shampoo and conditioner
Really the base of any good style is the shampoo and conditioner. You guys might know that I do bridal hair on the side and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, I come across some really nasty hair sometimes. The other day I was doing a bride and her hair was so greasy. I was thinking “my goodness, when was the last time she washed it?” Then through conversation she told me that she had washed it that morning. Say what?? Then she mentioned that she didn’t think her shampoo and conditioner was very good. I kindly suggested to switch it because what she was using clearly wasn’t working for her.
I use Garnier® Whole Blends™ Refreshing Hair Care System. I want to make sure I’m using a product that is good for my hair and helps make it feel silky smooth & healthy. It doesn’t have any parabens and is infused with green apple and green tea extracts revitalizing my hair and giving it the shine that it needs. I also love how Garnier® is committed to sustainability. With the amount of beauty products, we use daily, it’s nice to purchase from companies who purchase fairly and support local farmers. The packaging is also made from recyclable PET plastic and the product is produced in a facility that has reduced its waster and water consumption per unit by about 58% and 47% since 2005! I’m not a super “green” type person but it does make sense to do all that we can to take care of our planet and it’s encouraging to see companies embrace that as well!
Use leave in conditioner
I’m sure you’ve felt the damage all the aspects of summer can bring on your hair, but don’t worry! There really are ways to help! Try using a leave-in conditioner at least once a week for really damaged hair. Leave it in while you shave your legs or dampen your hair and leave it on for a little longer before you even get in the shower. Garnier® Whole Blends™ has deep conditioners for a lot of different hair ailments. Smoothing, nourishing, hydrating, color care (which I have and use and smells amazing), repairing and refreshing. Try one or switch them each week for different benefits. Your hair will thank you later!
Limit the heat
Now that summer is coming to an end, kids are going back to school and vacations are generally ending or over, you can start to limit the heat. It might still be hot outside (I think it is in California!) but you don’t have to always have your hair exposed. Try wearing a hat if you’re out and about and if you do lay out, try a wide-brimmed hat so that it covers your hair and your face — win-win! You want to also limit the amount of heat you use on your hair. If you are able to let your hair air dry, do that. If you can maybe sleep on it wet and style it the next day, do that. Try to limit the amount of heat you apply to your hair daily. Also, try to go longer between washes and uses of styling tools. If you’re looking to change things up and try out a new hair-style, make sure to always prime your hair before applying heat! To avoid tangles, I’ve recently been using Garnier’s new Apple & Green Tea Extracts leave-in spray. It detangles and leaves your hair feeling silky-smooth and smelling great!
Wear it down
Like I mention, I have a tendency to wear my hair up all summer. It’s hot and nobody has time to style their hair every day! Instead of throwing it up, find other ways to wear it. Just throw the bangs up out of your face. Try a French braid (or three!) to hold back the front but not have all your hair up. I also use bobby pins sometimes instead of hair tie so that it’s not as rough on my hair. Always wearing your hair up in a messy bun or ponytail can actually break & damage the hair which isn’t helpful after summer!
Get a trim
It is amazing how a little trim can freshen up your whole hairstyle! If you have hair loss problem, you can also try a toupee for men and woemn. Just taking an inch or two off the bottom that is dead and scraggly can make the entire head of hair seem healthier. It can kind of seem counter intuitive, but trust me, it helps. And if your hair is severely damaged, you might just have to cut a little more off and get a fresh start. When I tried the no-poo method of hair washing it ruined my hair. It was greasy, broken and fragile. I normally have thick, healthy hair and I was worried I had ruined it forever. So I went in and chopped off quite a bit of it and thankfully it’s grown back great, just like before!
I hope these tips help you practically repair and refresh your hair for fall! You can check out all the Garnier® Whole Blends™ options here! Then come back and thank me later!
