So I have decided to go back to basics with hair. The base of things is really what needs to be learned to create all those other fun styles you see. So think of it as a beauty school of sorts. We’ll do braids, buns, blow dry, products, and anything else I can think that is basic. Actually, if you have any requests – leave them in the comments, I’ll do my best to get to them!
I thought I would start with how to do a fishtail braid. It’s not the most basic braid, so you might be wondering why. Well, because it’s easy once you get the hang of it and it looks a lot more intricate than it really is. Read: people will think you spent a ton of time on your hair! Sounds good to me!
First I do want to say – you might not get it on the first try. Just as it goes with most things in life, practice makes perfect. So this is the basics and then you’ve got to get in there, sit in front of the bathroom mirror and give it a couple shots! If you get frustrated, walk away and try again later. The more you practice, the easier it will be. You’ll eventually find your grove with how you braid and be a pro yourself!
How to do a fishtail braid
The best way I could show you guys was through video. Pictures just don’t do it justice. So I put together a YouTube tutorial for you guys. It’s about 10 minutes long because I didn’t want to fast forward any of the braiding parts even when I’m not talking. So if you didn’t understand how I explained it, you can watch me do the fishtail as I go. I did two different kinds, a regular & a “Dutch” fishtail. You’ll see, it really isn’t too hard!
So without further adieu, here’s the tutorial! Please let me know if you found it helpful or if you needed to see something slower or closer or anything. I want to make these back to basics videos as helpful for you guys as possible!
Now I thought it would be fun to share styles from different bloggers around the web who have tutorials with a fishtail. There’s lots of talented ladies out there, I want to share with you guys!
And last but not least…
I really hope with my video and all these options you are inspired to get busy fishtailing! Make sure you leave comments or suggestions in the comments so I can make these back to basics series super awesome!
