Phenomenal Women

It seems like, with so many forms of social media, we often hear a lot of the negatives. Life is hard and dangerous and people are bad. So when I come across a company that wants to honestly do good and inspire and uplift other women, I’m all about it. You guys know that I am a brand ambassador for Lean Cuisine and I am super proud to be one. Last time I talked about weighing what matters. So often we put so much pressure to have that “right” number on the scale. If it’s a couple pounds off we feel like we’ve failed. But that’s so not true! Life is about so much more than that number on the scale! It is important to lead a healthy lifestyle and to take care of yourself and your body, but letting a number on the scale determine your worth is not what we should be doing. We want to weigh what really matters – YOU! And all of your accomplishments! YOU are worth it! Today I wanted to share about a woman whose hard work often goes unnoticed. Who is always willing to help me out, take care of my kids when I need it, and has so much love to go around, it’s inspirational. And I’m blessed enough to call her my momma! phenomenal women When Lean Cuisine asked me to share about a woman in my life who is phenomenal, she popped right into my head. She loves her family and expresses that in ways that we can see and also very often behind the scenes. Even though all her kids are adults, she takes care of each one of us, making sure we are still all good. She loves her grand babies and is a constant help to me and my sister-in-law. When I was younger I had no idea what she did for us. I am pretty sure I took most of it for granted. Now that I’m older and have kids I can see more of the sacrifices she made for us. Like getting up at 4:00 am to work so she could be done with her work by the time we woke up. Like making financial sacrifices with my dad so we could attend private school and play club sports. She is always encouraging and uplifting and if I’m half the woman she is I will call it a success. me and my momma

Thank you, Momma, for being so great and setting such an amazing (albeit high!) example. I love you! Lean Cuisine wants to help recognize all the things that women do that go unnoticed. We want you to join in! Who inspires you? What woman pushes you to be better and sets a great example? Make sure they know just how fabulous they are! Head over to Lean Cuisine’s Phenomenal Effect website to enter to win prizes for yourself and everyone that you recognize!

The phenomenal woman in my life who immediately stands out is my mom. She became a SAHM when I was 5. She didn’t go to college and never really had a career. One time she told me she feels like she failed because she didn’t do anything and that my brothers and I are her biggest accomplishments. I felt so sad to hear her say that because, to me, she’ll always be the most amazing woman ever. I have one child and I did the SAHM thing for about a year. It. Is. HARD! I can’t imagine doing it with 3 kids. So there’s that. Even when she was chasing around her mischievous children (ahem!) our house always looked neat and organized. Dinner was always ready by the time my dad got home from work. Homework was done. We were bathed. I could go on but you get it. And I don’t remember seeing her angry, stressed. She was always there for us. So much love. As an adult, I’m aware that there were certainly times she was sad, stressed, etc. But as a parent you want to shield your kids from that and give them a happy home. And we were. My parents just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They’re empty nesters now. And she’s been pursuing more things that she wants. I think she is phenomenal for the person she is. Now if only I could figure out how to control the clutter like she always does….

I’m going to have to follow the trend, but it’s definitely my mom. My mom grew up in India and moved to the States to marry my dad. I can’t even imagine what that was like…to give up everything you’ve known to marry a near stranger (it was arranged). She then went on to have 7, yes SEVEN kids. At 19, I’m the oldest. The youngest is only one. After having a few kids, my mom gave up her nursing career to stay at home and raise us. And not only raise, but homeschool us – all of us. To add to that burden, one of my brothers has a learning disability that impairs his speech and comprehension. The expense, stress, and worry has been enormous but she is so strong. She is the rock…she has unwavering faith in God and in her kids. She serves with a smile and is always there. Did I mention she cooks all three meals a day from scratch? Yeah! She is one hell of a woman. And I love her to death.

I’d like to recognize my mother because she is a phenomenal woman on so many levels. She volunteers to run with young girls, instilling confidence in them and getting them healthier. She also survived stage 3 colon cancer, ran 2 marathons and raised 2 kids as a single parent on a teacher’s salary. She has stuck by my side even during the darkest parts of my life. She is so selfless and caring and deserves to be recognized.

My mom has always led by example. Visiting widows, taking those less fortunate to the grocery store and doctor’s appointments, sewing for little girls just so they can have one special dress, and the list goes on. She’s always given her life to her 5 children and to others selflessly. As children, we would sometimes resent her involvement in the lives of others (she never neglected us in any way) but now we all cherish the example she exhibited. To this day, people remember my mom’s love and kindness.

One of the most phenomenal women in my life is my cousin, Mickey. She’s really like a sister to me. Although we lived several hours apart growing up, we spent many holidays, vacations and summers together. When we were kids, we dressed alike, fought, got into trouble together (mostly with my mom & her grandmother), went to our first Beatles concert (we were, I think, 10 and 11), double dated, ruined our hair, got crazy together, and generally loved each other to pieces in spite of, or because of, it all. As adults, we’ve lived further apart and don’t see each other frequently. However, she’s the one I laugh – and cry – the hardest with, gossip best with, know that we understand each other’s idiosyncrasies the best, and alternately tolerate and celebrate each other the most. And, we know that we always have each other’s back, no matter what. We don’t always agree, and we’ve made different choices in life, but the one constant is love.

definitely my mother and her sister (my aunt) are phenomenal women in my life. My brothers and I lost our father to cancer over 25 years ago and my mother has gone to work and I’m so proud of her, she has paid off her house, purchased her car with cash and has saved money. She and her sister remain close despite often not agreeing on things (politics, etc ) Lol its nice to see their close relationship and I’m glad they talk everyday and live close to each other.
