Sand Pudding – Video Tutorial

So summer is officially here, it’s H.O.T. and the fourth of July is next weekend. What does that mean? It’s time to whip up some sand pudding! This recipe has been one of the most popular on my blog to date! Rightly so, it’s delicious, easy and fun and not to mention that you don’t have to use an oven. Which is a total WIN for the summer.

easy sand pudding

I don’t know why I never thought of this before, but I made a YouTube tutorial for sand pudding! I usually share makeup, beauty and hair stuff, but I thought it would be fun to branch out a little and because this recipe is so popular, I thought it would be a good place to start!

1 pkg Vanilla Wafers
3 or 4 Oreos
8 oz Cream Cheese
1/4 C Butter
2/3 C powdered sugar
2 small pkgs French Vanilla pudding mix
2 3/4 C Milk
12 oz Cool Whip

Crush Oreos and Vanilla Wafers in a food processor. In a separate bowl, cream together softened 8 oz cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. In a different bowl, mix the instant pudding with the milk.  Add the pudding mixture to the cream cheese mixture. Gently fold in the cool whip. Layer into buckets starting with pudding, sand, pudding etc. ending with a layer of sand. Finish off with a cute shovel for a serving spoon!

You can double the recipe if you have two buckets or a large one like in this video (although I didn’t double it here, I could have). If you want to make it ahead of time, make the sand and the pudding portions separately and then assemble the day of the event. If you assemble too early the pudding with make the sand mushy.

We bought a sand bucket specifically for this recipe and have never used it outside. It’s a fun family favorite!

I hope you get a chance to make this sand pudding this summer and bring it to a fun event! I promise it will be a big hit!

Super cute recipe! Just wondering: can the cream cheese be substituted with something else or be omitted entirely? I just can’t stand cream cheese. Even when people say that you can’t really taste it in a recipe I can always taste it. Other than that, I love this idea and will probably make it as is for a party.

I imagine you could probably leave it out entirely. I have never tried it, but it should be thick enough without it. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Do you take the cream filling out of the oreo?

    • Natalia July 1, 2015 at 1:52 pm #

Nope, no need! Just toss them in the food processor!

Love it. Cannot wait to try it. So cute & creative 🙂

Oh good! It’ll be a big hit!

Idk if it was bc I used organic milk (but don’t see why this would matter) or because the pudding wasnt instant, but mine came out like soup! Guessing it’s because it needed to be instant, so make sure to buy INSTANT or you’ll be going back to the store and rebuying the whole recipe like me!

I did this too. Just took the ingredient list with me without reading the recipe all the way through, and did not buy instant! Ugh…another trip to the store it will be!

At any point do you or can you refridgerate sand pudding

    • Natalia July 31, 2015 at 5:21 pm #

You can when it’s done, but I don’t suggest you do it for a long time. You can make the ingredients separately and then put them together right before you go somewhere. But if it’s done too far in advance the ‘sand’ portion will get mushy!

I love the bucket! Where did you get it? I am going to try this for an upcoming family reunion. Can’t wait!

I am so sorry, I don’t know! I will have to search for them and let everyone know. My mom bought it a while ago!

Just wondering: what if we add more Oreos and make it with chocolate pudding instead? It could be called Volcanic Sand Pudding. Just sayin’.

I made this for a party yesterday and it was gone so fast that some guests didn’t even have any. Plus the hostess thought we brought real sand. This was super-fun and easy, thank you 🙂

So glad it was such a hit! Have a great day!

Love this and can’t wait to make it. Where did you find a pail with a lid? I’ve searched unsuccessfully! Thx.

Honestly, my mom bought it a while ago, I don’t even know! Sorry about that!

The recipe called for 1 container of 12 oz. cool whip, but in the video, she only said 1 1/2 containers. Just want to know what is correct. Barbara

    • Natalia July 31, 2015 at 5:18 pm #

1 1/2 is more accurate but either way works!

How long does it take for the sand portion to get mushy? Just wondering because I’m going to take it to my family get together this weekend but it takes 1hr to get there.

    • Natalia August 4, 2015 at 6:58 am #

And hour shouldn’t be a problem at all – you’re good!

    • Natalia January 14, 2016 at 10:47 am #

I have grave concerns about the “food grade quality” of the beach toys. They are probably manufactured in China, which doesn’t gives a piddly damn about food safety. Hard telling how toxic the material is in these toys. I’ll use a clear glass bowl.

    • Natalia May 23, 2016 at 9:45 am #

That’s a great idea, if you don’t feel comfortable using a toy! It’ll still taste yummy! 🙂
