You guys, I have a confession. I’m really not that great of a hair stylist. Yep, I said it. I mean, I love doing hair and all, but I am just like you. I don’t have any training really, I have never been to beauty school. I just happen to enjoying trying new styles and I want to share those with you. Really one of the only reasons I share them is because I want to encourage you to try them too. I feel like because I am a normal gal like you, if I can do it, I believe you can too!
With that being said, you must know that all of my hairstyles shared are simple. If I can do them, you can do them! Today’s ‘easier-than-it-looks’ messy updo tutorial is no exception. There’s a secret trick in there with the way I make the messy bun that you’ll love because it simplifies it.

Pretty, right? Does it look simple? Because it sure is. If you can work a bobby pin, you can do this style. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Teaser comb like this one
- Bobby pins – These are the best
- Hair tie
- Hair spray optional – my favorite
Curls are best for this tutorial, but if you don’t have time, just curl the ends of your hair. If you already have curly hair, you’re half way there!
You’ll have to watch the video below to see the secret of getting the back to hold like it does. It’s really simple and will be especially helpful for ladies with long hair.
I know that Valentine’s Day is coming up and for those of you who have dates – whether it’s with friends or the man in your life – you can use this messy updo tutorial for your night out! My husband doesn’t “believe” in Valentine’s Day – whatever that means. I think it’s just an excuse so he doesn’t have to celebrate it. He says (cue my best manly voice) “I love you every day of the year, why do I need to celebrate it?” So romantic, this guy. He’s all mine ladies, back off!
