You can’t say I didn’t warn you. I’m on a healthy/clean eating/clean living kick. I guess that’s a good kick to be on though, so I’ll take it. And you, lucky readers, are benefitting from it! That is, if you like that sort of thing. If not, just graze over this post for this scrumptious lean, grass-fed French Burger.
Grass-Fed French Burger
You might be wondering what indeed is a French Burger and I feel ya. If I hadn’t lived part of my adult life in France, I wouldn’t have known either. What I have come to know about the French is that they love to just plop a fried egg on top of dishes. Pizzas, sandwiches, pastas, and yes, meat.
The first couple times I saw this sort of thing it really grossed me out. I mean, a fried egg that is seriously barely cooked just lying there? It’s funny now that I think about it, I don’t know why it grossed me out –I actually enjoy eggs cooked over easy like that. I had never tried one of these dishes until in France this year. Yes, it’s been about 7 years abroad and I just now tried it. It was at a restaurant at the beach when my parents were visiting. My dad ordered it. And it was good.
So fast forward a couple months and I’m in the middle of a 28-day cleanse and it’s dinnertime and I had nothing. My husband wasn’t home (he wouldn’t have eaten this) and I had to feed my dad. We had the organic, lean, grass-fed beef in the fridge already thawed… I had an idea! During the cleanse, we couldn’t have wheat, cheese, or condiments, so this really limits a hamburger. I was racking my brain to think of something that filled us up, was healthy and didn’t lack flavor. This baby is what I came up with. And let.me.tell.you. it satisfied
No bun for those who are gluten intolerant. No cheese for those who are dairy intolerant. Here’s what I did.
- Form the beef into patties. Don’t add anything to them – the more you work the patties the harder they’ll be. Instead, form the patties and then sprinkle a little salt and pepper on them.
- Grill those babies.
- While they’re grilling, fry your egg. Do it gently and let that yolk flow! Unless you don’t like that sort of thing, then cook it a little better. It’ll still taste good.
- Retrieve your burger from the grill and add the fixin’s. I added vine-ripened tomatoes, onions, avocado, and then plop that egg right on top.
- Devour it.
Okay, well, now I’m hungry!
Who’s making their own French burger this weekend? Can I come over?
