Simple Summer Braid

During the hot summer months, that thankfully haven’t completely arrived yet, all I want for my hair is to get it out of my face and off my neck. I don’t want to always wear a ponytail though, so what is a girl to do? This simple summer braid has come to the rescue. Yes, I know, it’s nothing mind-blowing, but it’s cute and easy and perfect for summer. So I thought I would share!

Simple Summer Braid

Easy summer braid tutorial

The bummer is that I did this tutorial and took these pictures before I colored my hair. So yes, I am aware I have major root action going on. It’s fixed, I promise. Post on that coming soon as well.

Now back to our simple summer braid. It’s so easy and you don’t need too much to get it done. In fact, you don’t have to use any product at all, but in my personal experience, styles look better and stay longer when you use the right product. Here’s what I used:

  • Big Sexy Hair Powder Play – to give you lift at the roots without teasing.
  • Dry Shampoo – because it seems like my hair is always dirty. (also helps with volume)
  • Teaser comb – to pull the braid out (say whaaaat? Pull it out? Just watch the video, ladies)
  • Hair tie – obviously to finish the braid off

You’ll start with the powder play the the roots and you can actually feel the volume happen. You don’t want to tease too much because you’ll be breaking it up when you create the braid. Then dry shampoo (optional, I prefer to use it.) and that’s it! Braid away and then, well, just watch the video, it’s explained better there. I’m also a total dork, you might get a few laughs.

There you have it! This simple summer braid will keep you from having to rock a ponytail and messy top knot all summer! At least now you’ll have three hairstyles in your repertoire.

Hope you enjoyed the video! You can subscribe here if you’d like. I’d love to have ya! Also, always feel free to leave comments with hair tutorial suggestions, I’d love to give them a try!

I love this braid. I do it at least once a week. The only problem is my hair is not as thick as yours so the top part doesn’t look as great as yours!

It’s true that my hair is hecka thick. But maybe start by taking smaller sections and it will look more intricate when you’re all done. Just a suggestion!

You’ve inspired me to make a new summer goal–figure out how to braid my own hair! I believe this was a skill I had when I was a kid, but I seem to have lost it over the years. But this is so cute, and seems like something I could do if I sat down and messed around with it for an afternoon. So thank you–new goal. πŸ™‚

And yes, this was one of your funnier videos. πŸ™‚ I think it’s great your personality shines through!
