Trades of Hope

So often I look at my life and am just in wonder of all the blessings I have. Not even the extras, but just the basics. I have food to eat. I have my health. I have the opportunity to make a respectable living. I have a loving healthy family. The list could go on and on. There is so much of the world that don’t have these basic blessings. It can be overwhelming, having the desire to help but not really knowing how to reach these people. And also in a way that is more than sending money.

I love it when it comes together. I love it when there is a way to help that goes beyond just sending money. Which is not at all a bad thing. But the idea of Fair Trade — where we buy products produced by these women who would have otherwise had no hope to create a sustainable living for them — goes above and beyond. So many women live in poverty, not because they lack abilities, but because they lack opportunity. Trades of Hope is creating opportunity.

I want to introduce Kelleigh. She contacted me a little bit ago to host a giveaway and raise awareness of this amazing opportunity. I was oh so happy to oblige. I want you to know, I am not doing this for any kind of compensation (although she’s sending me a pretty scarf) but because I believe in what this program is doing. I’ll let Kelleigh take it from here.

In July, my husband, baby girl and I found ourselves in an unexpected turn of events that forced us to leave our home in Central Asia and return to Texas. With future international work put on hold, I was looking for something to fill my time (as if a mom of an eleven month old has much time!) as well as provide a little extra income to help us out. I thought I might try my hand at direct selling and my mom, recently returned from a mission trip to Haiti, suggested I look into selling with Trades of Hope. Flash forward a month, and I am now a Compassion Entrepreneur with Trades of Hope. I am as excited and passionate about selling these fair trade products as I am about the life changing work I was involved in back in Central Asia!

You’ve heard the saying “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.” There are Fair Trade organizations around the globe teaching men and women how to “fish” and this is where Trades of Hope comes into play.

In countries around the world women are finding their way and providing for their families thanks to Fair Trade companies like Trades of Hope and the not for profit organizations they partner with. Women who were once trapped in human trafficking or unable to provide the proper care for their families are now making a valid and sustainable income and finding respect in places where women are not normally respected!  The items these women make are purchased, at a fair trade rate, by Trades of Hope and then sold to World Changers like you through Compassion Entrepreneur’s like me.
