So guys, I’m alive.
I’m alive and I’m now 30 years old.
Remember when you were young and you knew people who were 30 and you thought “Oh my goodness, they’re so old!” Well, I’m that old lady now.
Honestly, I’m fine with it. I’m fine with being done with the silliness and bad decisions that come with the 20s. I’m ready for some new, hopefully less-bad decisions that will come with my 30s!
So the week before last, my husband and parents threw me a little party. And by little, I actually mean big (just low key) because I have a super big and awesome and amazing family/friend support system.
Case in point: my older brother lives in Oregon. Because of that and the fact that I’m on and off between here and France, I don’t see him as often as I’d like. Well Thursday night, my husband had to ‘pick a friend up from the airport’ and pulled up to the house with him! He flew in to surprise me for my 30th! What a super cool dude!
Oh and he’s super smart and thoughtful and owns his own (successful) business and is an all around great guy. Bonus – ladies, he’s single! 🙂
My pseudo in-laws came out. I can’t tell you how much I love these people. There is absolutely no replacing my true in-laws who I love to death, but man, these two people have to be some of my favorite in the world. They took my husband in as a little (sort of) 17 year-old boy when he first came here for college and acted as his home-away-from-home family for the duration of his college career. Amazing people.
And my daddy. I’m a big daddy’s girl. There isn’t enough space on this blog for the wonderfulness that is my father. Good thing I was the only girl, I don’t think I could have shared him!
My husband had to leave the morning after my party (BOO!) to go back to France. We are following shortly — two and a half weeks — but definitely miss him.
We left for Yosemite a couple days later and that’s where we celebrated my actual birthday which is August 9th. Yosemite is a long standing (like over 50 years!) tradition in our family and I love passing that onto my boys. They thrive outdoors and are on a high all week.
This all was happening just after returning from the mind-blowing trip that was Chicago. I still haven’t processed it all. Needless to say, I didn’t have time to post. But you’d be proud of me, instead of put pressure on myself to come up with something and not enjoy myself on vacation, I just didn’t. I didn’t post on Facebook or Instagram or even Twitter! I took a little break. And while I was in the mountains of Yosemite, reveling in God’s beauty, I didn’t check statuses, or worry about page views, or followers. I just was. And it was wonderful.
You guys forgive me right? I hope so! Just in case you’re a little leery, I have something for you. A giveaway!!
I don’t do a ton of giveaways, but I thought it’d be fun to celebrate my 30th here on the blog! Instagram is also always fun, so I thought we’d do it there too!
