Chicago Part 1

I have never in my life had a desire to go to Chicago. Don’t really know why, it just didn’t have a big appeal to me.

Last year I got to hang out in Chi-town for a weekend and I quickly realized just how amazing this beautiful city actually is. I didn’t even have a chance to hang out in the city or see any sites, but still I fell in love.

After finding out BlogHer ’13 would be in Chicago, initially I was disappointed, I don’t like to double up on the places I’ve been, but then I was excited! I will get a chance to explore this beautiful place a little more and truly experience it!

And that I did.  chicago

I left straight from Nassau Wednesday morning to get in relatively early. I wanted to have time to relax and get organized before I spoke Friday morning. It was lovely. I arrived just a little before my roommate so we caught a cab together. Although now that I’ve used the L-train & a cab, I would choose the L-train any day. Living in Europe has made me appreciate public transportation.

We went back to the hotel and claimed the big bed because we were the first roommates there. Only after getting situated did we remember one of our roommates was pregnant and we totally gave her the couch. She was such a trouper though and said she didn’t mind. Hopefully she doesn’t hate us! It was a nice pull out couch if that helps our case at all…

Then we headed out with our third roommate to get our nails done. It was expensive, but totally worth it. It was nice to have my nails all pretty all weekend and not have to worry about them chipping. I did the gel manicure. Then we headed out for dinner. The lovely Gigi met us for some amazing deep dish pizza and awesome conversation! Gigi – how did I not get a picture with you?!

Thursday was chill/shopping day. Hillary was on the hunt for some flats and I got to see how amazing the shopping in this city was! Man, I want to go back just to shop! Alas she ended up finding shoes that hurt her feet even more. Poor things, by the end of the trip were thrashed!

I had to get some shots while we were out and about!

For those of you non-bloggers, to give you an idea of how big this conference is, they posted these flags all around the city! Amazing isn’t it? I know it’s a world that is sort of hard to understand, but really so cool to be a part of!

So Thursday night for the first networking dinner I was armed with my beautiful cards designed by Tico & Tina and printed by Moo, I was ready to rock n’ roll.

Friday was my panel. I have to admit, I was nervous in the morning. I have never spoken at an event before. And although I was nervous, I just knew I would be good at it, I just had to get past that. I called my husband and was kinda lamenting about my nerves & he said “Natalia – this is you. You were made for this. Just do it.”

Leave it to my amazing husband to just tell me straight out and leave no room for whining or complaining. And you know what, it was exactly what I needed.

So I spoke and it was awesome. I loved it. I wasn’t nervous when I got up there and I felt like it went really well. The ladies on the panel, Patrice and Gabi were so kind and fun to be around and we also had a surprise guest on our panel, Marcus. I thought we did well and complimented each other well. Hopefully the audience felt that way too!

So cool! My first speaking engagement, hopefully one of many!

So much more happened, I want to share it all with you, but this post is going to be way too long! So I will get the next post up tomorrow. Have a great Friday, friends!
