And He’s 6

Well, last weekend we had some super heroes invade our house for the afternoon. One little boy turned six and wanted to invite them all. It’s okay, I always feel safer when they’re around.

** Warning. This is not a Pinterest Party. You will not get some amazing ideas or be totally inspired. It’s just a normal 6 year-old’s party with a non-over-achiever mom who put it together. You’ve been warned. **

Seriously though. I love Pinterest. It truly inspires in a lot of ways. But sometimes it can make us less creative moms feel a little bad about ourselves.

I wasn’t gonna let this stop me. I whipped out the store-bought decoration and plastered those things around the apartment like a boss. BAM. With little to no work, my son was happy. Take that Pinterest!

the boys

Look at this kids. Can we freeze time? When Eli starts talking better, I think I’m gonna cry. Then all my babies will be gone.

Here is the one effort I did put into the party. An Avengers cake.

avengers cake

When I was little my mom used to make and decorate whatever kind of cake we wanted. She did dinosaurs, dresses, my name one year, she was super creative with it. It’s been something that I wanted to pass onto my kids. So I asked Tae what kind of Avengers cake he wanted and he drew this really elaborate picture.

Um ya. Okay. How about just the Avengers logo and I’ll stick the confetti pictures of the Avengers on it? Mmmm-kay? Cuz honey,  momma’s good, but not that good.

face painting

We didn’t really have anything for the kids to do because I figured they’d just play. Which they did. But I remembered I had some paints and what kid doesn’t want their face painted? So I whipped those out and painted a few spiderwebs, butterflies, and even a car. What can I say, I aim to please.  eli

This kid. Stop it. Just stop.

Like father like son. They love their super heroes.

watching super heroes Then the inevitable veg out after the party. Everyone was tired. Little episode of the Justice league for a night cap anyone? Life of a mom of boys.

Now I might get a little sentimental…

All I can think is who knew? Who knew that something I thought would be a disaster, something I thought would ruin my life would turn into such a huge blessing. Who knew that this ‘mistake’ we made 7 years ago would be this amazing kid? This kid who is so brave! Who started a new school with new kids in a new language he didn’t speak and walked into that classroom like.a.boss. without a tear. Who knew you would be such an all-star athlete with a love to just play. Who knew what a brainiac you’d be with such a desire to learn? Who knew that your energy would ABOUND. Who knew that I would look back on those days filled with tears when I wondered what I would do with my life and think “if I only knew!!” If I only had know the amazing little kid that would be brought into this world. I wouldn’t have been scared. I wouldn’t have wondered. I would have been so excited! I would have known that you were perfect for me and Daddy. And that after all the tears and doubts, we’d all be okay.

Dear Tae-Tae,

Oh baby, momma loves you. More than words. What I thought was going to be a disaster turned out to truly be one of the biggest blessings of my life. The Lord knew that you were meant for me and dad. We love you. We push you and challenge you because we see that you have so much potential. The options are endless for you. You can do so much, baby. Just remember to love God, love your family, be nice to everyone, stay away from the bad, stand up for what’s right, be strong and courageous, don’t believe the hate, do what you know to be right, don’t let others bring you down or affect your path, be careful who you trust, and listen to wisdom.

I know, it’s a lot. Above all remember that above all God loves you, mom and dad love you, we’re so proud of the little man you are and cannot wait to see the man you become.

Happy Birthday Tae!!

I love the party!  I think pinterest is great for looking at beautiful things, but honestly, life is often so much more fun when it is improvised and messy.  Looks like you had a lot of fun!

So true! And the main point was that my baby had fun and the kids had fun. Success!

You can certainly tell that fun was had by all. Lovely, amazing cake! I have 3 “boys”, ages 42, 34 and 31. I still look at them in amazement. Love just grows with the years, but the ages of your boys are some of the sweetest. Enjoy.

I love connecting with moms of older ‘boys’! It’s always so sweet to me. I am doing my best to enjoy them in each stage!! Cuz my 6-yr-old, God bless him, thinks he knows it all!! Yeesh!

The Lord most definitely knew! My whole life is a testament to His work. Because on my own it should have been pretty screwed up! The party was fun, thanks for stopping by!
