Fabulous Tips Right to Your Inbox!:

Salon Hair at Home

I know that a lot of you come here for the hairstyles & beauty tips. And I really love to share them!

The thing is, I’m no stylist. I haven’t gone to school or practiced professionally. I just really enjoy it. And I want to encourage you that it is possible to put on makeup, look cute & have great hair!

And like most of you, I am always on the search for the best products for my hair. Here’s the catch. I do not like to spend a lot of money on them. I want them to work without paying $20 a pop just for shampoo. Can I get an amen? I suppose if I had $20 a pop kind of money it wouldn’t be so bad, but in reality, why pay that kind of money when you get can the real deal for some really great prices.

Enter Vidal Sassoon Pro Series.

Please & thank you. I know what you’re thinking – “That stuff’s not cheap, it’s up there with the rest of the expensive ones!” I know, I thought the same thing! In fact, in some recent focus groups, it was routinely assumed to be twice as expensive as it actually is. In fact, I was just sitting here talking to my cousin & husband and they both said “I thought that was expensive!”

I am all about looking good and paying less for it. It’s like my mantra. Because when I have to feed two little monsters and one big one, sometimes expensive salon products is not a high priority on my list.

They also have hair color. If you’ve read here for a little bit of time, you know that I color my hair myself. Once again, why pay the big bucks when you can do it yourself at home? Don’t think you can do it yourself? Well, teach your husband! (sorry husbands…)

I like doing it myself because I can choose my color myself, and most of the time I mix two of the same product to get what I want. I can do it in the comfort of my own home, and instead of paying upwards of $70 every 6-8 weeks, I pay closer to $15. Tell that to your husbands, they might not mind as much!

Here are the two colors I used this time. I like to mix the darkest brown I can find with the darkest vibrant red. It creates a deep brown/red color that’s perfect for me.

Or wait, I just thought of a great idea! Have a hair coloring party! Invite some girlfriends over with their hair color of choice and you can all color each other’s hair! (Phew, there you go husbands, got ya off the hook!) And for your hair stylin’ party, everyone can download & use these coupons, saving money on some already inexpensive brands!

I’m totally gonna do that some time. Genius.

Here is my hair before & after – what do you think?

You’ll notice the roots in the first picture… yuck. And you can see how it has lightened a lot. I love the deep brownish red color!

Now you know you can grab it at your local Kroger’s brand store while you’re picking up your groceries! My kind of product, I’m telling ya.

What are your go-to products that give you salon quality?

Great hair doesn’t have to cost a fortune. At Kroger, you can achieve salon-inspired results, brilliantly priced, when you purchased new Vidal Sassoon Pro Series hair products. Download coupons for the already affordable products, now through March 2. Happy shopping (and shampooing)!

Thanks! It’s so much cheaper, isn’t it? I like doing it at home and it’s not as hard as it looks!

Hi! Natalia…I Love your new hair. Gorgeous :) and thanks for sharing the hair color you use I wanted to ask you but, I thought you got it done in a salon. I am excited to color my own hair now…lOL, my husband colors it for me or my sister. I like deals on hair care products because I dont have the money for outrageously priced products. I love your page and love the info. God Bless

Thank you, I am glad you liked it! Doing your color at home is very practical and if you don’t do a ton of highlights or anything, it’s definitely very doable! Thanks for the compliments!

Wow, it looks amazing! The colour, style, all of it – you are gorgeous!! I have been dying to try at home hair colour but I am such a chicken poop!! I am sooooo tired of forking out the cash every six weeks. The problem is, I don’t know where to start as far as colour goes. I have blonde hair (and natural grey roots LOL) and the bottom portion is coloured dark. Can you help me pick a colour?? I even have the “colour code” from my hairdresser that he uses – not sure if this would be helpful in choosing colours… But it’s 10/N on the roots (the blonde) and its 6/77 for the dark portion. I don’t even care if I do the dark portion anymore. I also have had a little caramel colour in there before and really liked it.  I know I am probably asking the impossible, but any advice/suggestions you may have would be appreciated! Love your blog so much. Thank you!

Hmmm…. it’s hard to say without seeing a picture, but I would suggest going to the store & picking colors that kind of match what you already have. Then I would color the light section and after the darker section. Do you mean it’s kinda ombre? I’d start at the top and then do the bottom. Or if you don’t care about the bottom, just do the roots and bring the color out a little, but just don’t bring it all the way through to the ends. If you did, I think the darker color would still show through, so either way is probably fine. I hope this makes sense and helps a little!

You are so sweet to take the time to respond. Thank you so much! I am going to give it a try and see what happens. If its a disaster, I guess I can always go back and get my hairdresser to fix it! I appreciate your advice!!

Does your husband help you to dye your hair? If so I am impressed, don´t colour my hair (have it naturally black) but if I did, would never ask my husband to do it…sure I would have to pay a hairdresser to repair the damage!! Anyway, your hair looks gorgeous: healthy and shiny, love the colour too.

Thank you! Actually my husband does not help me. He would if I asked, but I can do it myself so I don’t bother. I was just trying to give a suggestion to those that it is intimidating for! haha

When you said you mixed the colors, did you actually mix them or put one color on first then the next? Love your blog!

Often times the bottles they supply you are too small to fit both colors. So I have another bottle and put the developer & the color of both colors I want to use all in at the same time & then I shake that and they will be all combined. I always use the same product (like both colors Vidal Sassoon & same type of color) and I haven’t ever had a problem. It gives me the color I want! Hope this helps!
