Fabulous Tips Right to Your Inbox!:

Paris is Always a Good Idea

Last week I had the opportunity to go to Paris. And like the title of this post says – Paris is always a good idea. It’s a beautiful, enchanting city and I love it every time I’m there.

This time I got to meet my friend, Stacy, there for just two days. She happens to live in the south of France with her basketball-playing husband, so we have some things in common. :) In fact, I got to visit her in London two years ago & in Sweden last year. {And here’s what I wore in Sweden. And here too. Cuz this is a ‘fashion’ blog :) }

So it was fun to connect with her on my ‘home turf.’  However, I’ve been to Paris quite a few times & wasn’t all that interested in seeing any touristy things and Stacy had just been over Christmas, so we opted for Versailles. It did not disappoint.

versailles Now, I am a HUGE history nerd. Like, read 600 page biographies history nerd. I have just so happened to have read a Marie Antoinette 600 page biography so as you could imagine, Versailles was historically so fun. The last time I was at Versailles I didn’t know much about the history at all. So this time it was so much more interesting. {see, totally nerdy.}

For those of you who aren’t history buffs – Versailles is where the last queen of France lived during her reign. She didn’t have the greatest life, but check out her digs — can’t complain there!

Chateau de Versailles

We took a tour of the Chateau and got to see every part of it that’s available for viewing. My poor pregnant friend trekked around with me like a complete trooper. I just love imagining life back then. They took ‘turns about the room’ (name that movie!) in the their big courtier gowns. Crazy how far we’ve come.

Marie Antoinette’s backyard. I mean really? So beautiful. And the rain stopped just in time for us to take a small, short tour around this section. We were planning on seeing the Petite and Grande Trianon (Marie Antionette’s quarters) but we ran out of time.

Next time, Versailles, next time.

I did my hair cute and everything and the wind was ridiculous. It was a ratted mess by the end of the day. Palace of Versailles close Palace of Versailles

That’s all I have of my trip to Paris. I have a few to share tomorrow, but nothing much. I didn’t take a ton of pictures this time around. Well, scratch that. I have a million pictures of the inside of Versailles but didn’t want to bore you with them.

Hope you are having a wonderful week!

    The first time I went to France, we went to Versailles. What an amazingly beautiful place, I think I could spend days there. I, personally would love to see pictures of the inside. I don’t think many people have any idea of how beautiful and ornate it is. You should share a few :)

      Oh I could have spent days there too! I could spend forever there if I had it to myself & they opened it up entirely. Wouldn’t that be amazing? If I get a chance, I’ll share a few pictures later, it is pretty impressive!

    I love your “American in France” posts so much – thank you for taking the time to share this…and you look great by the way. Can you share the name of the book you mentioned – the Marie Antoinette bio?  Lol – watch it’s something obvious like “A Biography of Marie Antonette” but I thought I’d ask anyway. Thanks in advance…and it’s not nerdy – you’re curious about life and about what goes on around you and that’s a beautiful thing – it is part of what makes you AND your blog interesting.

      Thank you! I can’t remember the name of the book, but the author is Antoine Fraser. It is really excellent. It starts before she was born in Austria all the way to her death. It is based off of letters & personal accounts from her life and the people around her. It is unbiased and historical accurate which is why it’s so interesting, but it’s well written so it’s not boring. You can look her up, she has quite a few history books like that.

      Thanks for your compliments!

      It’s pretty cool but almost needs a whole day. Or at least a good half of a day. You could stay an extra night in Paris if you want!

    How Fabulous!  I have always wanted to go to Paris…and Versailles!  I studied it in college – I’m an architecture/art history nerd.  Thanks for letting me live vicariously.  Cheers!

    Ohhh!!! Paris is a place I have to visit. Is funny because your photos from the palace remaind me “el Palacio Real” (The Royal Palace) in Madrid, but Spanish monarchy was originally French so guess it makes sense, here a link if you want to see it: http://www.foroxerbar.com/viewtopic.php?t=5677

    • Natalia February 13, 2013 at 2:30 pm #

      I’ve never been to Spain but really would love to go! It seems like all the monarchies of Europe are all intertwined since they all married each other off to keep the peace!

      • POMERETA February 13, 2013 at 5:41 pm #

        As good Spaniard I can tell you: “our monarchy history is better than any soap opera”. When I was in school my classmates just to find it tedious, for me was so…entertaining! Still amazes me, guess history is a subject you love or you hate.

          OH my gosh, yes! I was looking through the link you sent me & sure enough, there was a picture of Marie Antoinette’s sister, Maria Carolina! I suppose it was a small world back then… She had quite a better fate than her sister though! And yes, I guess you love it or hate it because my husband doesn’t care for it! haha

    We are headed to Paris in September and are planning to spend a day at Versailles. I can’t wait to see it in person!

      It’s fabulous! I think you’ll love it! September is a really pretty time to go too!
