Headband Bun Hair Tutorial

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. A day that should be celebrated. A day that means a lot to me and my family. I love that we’re interracial & intercultural and although our road wasn’t always easy, it was people like Dr. King who paved the way for families like us. So thank you, Dr. King, I hope to meet you in paradise someday!

I had written a beautifully eloquent post about racism & why it exists & how we can change. But the truth is it wasn’t all that eloquent & I didn’t want to post something that wasn’t up to par. So maybe if I perfect it at some point I’ll post it, but in the meantime, I have written about being an interracial family a bit if you’d like to read!

I do, however, have a hair tutorial! I am still settling into our new place & getting things in order & have yet to do a hair tutorial in my new apartment. Luckily I had some from before Christmas to share!

Easy Headband Bun

Isn’t it pretty? It’s actually a style that’s perfect for the winter too! You can use a headband, an ear warmer or even a light scarf.

Headband elegant

easy headband bun headband back The tutorial is really very easy. Don’t believe me? check out the YouTube video, it’s barely over 3 minutes!

I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial! It’s fun and easy and perfect for all you busy ladies out there.

What kind of tutorials would you like to see on the blog? I am always open for ideas & suggestions! Oh and I am getting my hair cut soon… What should I do? Should I chop it off? It’s driving me so crazy, I just might…

Here’s to a great week! Cheers!

What a pretty style!! I have seen a similar Pin on Pinterest, but it didn’t have a wonderful video tute. Can’t watch at work today, but I will soon! I LOVE your long hair but could totally understand you wanting to cut it. Mine is a bit longer than my shoulders and heavily layered. I have alot of natural wave, so I wear it that way mostly. Some styles, I can’t wear it in cuz of the layers on top, but for the ease of styling it each day, I’ll take it. I think I could do this style with some bobby pins to hold down the top layers 🙂 Can’t wait to see your new do!

    • Natalia January 22, 2013 at 7:59 am #

That sounds like a great cut when you can wear it without a lot of styling. That’s something I need. It’s too long and getting unhealthy at the bottom because I haven’t had it trimmed in a long time. I’ll be sure to post with my new do!

thanks for the tutorial! i’ve been trying variants of this look for a while but have always had problems with my hair staying in place throughout the day… i assumed that it was because my hair was too long for the tuck, but this proves otherwise. will try again!

i would absolutely *love* to see a tutorial for these gorgeous double waterfall braids:
i’ve been trying to copy it but just can’t seem to get it right. Oh also a victory roll tutorial/vintage updo tutorials!

That is so pretty! I will have to get a fancy headband and try it! As for what I would like to see more of, anything that involves hair being up and out of your face! That seems to be the only way I can stand my hair lately 🙂

  27. Patty July 8, 2014 at 7:23 pm #

I positively LOVE this style. I saw how long your hair is and how easy it was for you to style it so I gave it a try because I’m tired of the same old braid and ponytail since my hair is past my back pockets. Not only did it actually stay up but it looks great which is saying something as my face shape makes certain up do’s and short hair look horrible. Thank you so, So much for this easy trick now I just need to find more head bands instead of the wide one I have lol.

    • Natalia July 10, 2014 at 8:54 am #

So great, I’m so glad you loved it!! It is a super easy trick that’s cute! Win-win! 🙂

  28. manatee74 July 17, 2014 at 2:29 pm #

Hi, this is really cute! I just found this website and I so appreciated your post on “13 ways to keep bang out of your face” – it was a true liberation. I am a really old person and I wish I knew these tricks when I was much younger!

I love the look of this hairstyle and I tried it, but I’m having a problem .. after I put headband on, while I work tucking my hair, the top part gets puffed up from the pressure from the band – I think it’s slipping upwards as I work – and I end up looking really funny … like a hamburger! What do you think is the problem? Is my headband too tight? I got one from a drug store … most common one, but it’s a bit tight. Do you think that’s the problem? Where do you get your headband and what kind of headband is optimal for this hairstyle?

    Thank you so much! ~

    • manatee74 July 17, 2014 at 2:38 pm #

I just tried the soft fabric band (wider one) but I seem to have the same problem …. it pushes my top hair upwards. and I look really funny. Why oh why? :'( I really want this to work ….

Do I need some type of styling products in my hair before I try this?

      • Natalia July 17, 2014 at 4:41 pm #

I just read your other comment, I’m so glad you liked it! I think you may just have to keep pulling the headband down as you work. You could also start with the headband lower than you would wear it normally and when you’re done, if it’s still low, slide it up a bit. If you still have the same problem, try tucking in the hair into the headband to pull it down a bit, does that make sense? Hope this helps a bit! Oh and I don’t think there is a particular product that would help it, just mastering the technique!
