Oh the Places You’ll Go!

Ya’ll, we’ve been busy!

If you didn’t already know, we moved to France on the 24th of December. Yes, you read that right, the day before Christmas.

Needless to say, our Christmas looked a little different this year, but you know what? That’s okay. We didn’t have a Christmas tree, or any decorations, or a big Christmas breakfast.

But we had each other. And as cheesy as it sounds, our lifestyle requires that we are apart more often than ‘normal’ families (whatever normal is) and we hadn’t seen Daddy in a month. So our simple Christmas was wonderful.

Then the craziness started. No wait — continued. The craziness continued. We arrived the 24th, went north on the 26th, another home game on the 28th, left for the south (the city we were last year) on the 1st, visited friends, hung out, & had fun, and back up north to our current city on the 5th.

The map below illustrates our travels. Crazy huh?!

traveling in france

Needless to say, I am looking forward to having a bit more of a routine. And ready or not – it starts tomorrow when my baby starts his French school.

I wanted to keep you guys updated because moving to France is kinda a big deal & it might be fun if you want to follow along with me. I didn’t take any pictures on our vacay, I just wanted to enjoy the time without having to document everything, but I do have a few from Instagram I’d like to share with you.

This is the view from our apartment. We live in the center of a small French city, about an hour outside of Paris in a 3 bedroom, 3rd floor walk up. It’s lovely.

our view
If you didn’t notice, the bottom left of the left picture says “Joue Club” which is a toy store. Yep. We live right above a toy store. And we pull up & there’s a huge Spiderman in the window. This should be interesting…

me & var

Christmas in Europe is always done so beautifully well. They decorate the whole city & in most cities in the centreville they have a Christmas Market. I think our city is beautiful, but that could be because I am from Southern California & the oldest thing we have there is like maybe 100 years old.

Quite the opposite here!

our city at Christmas

vintage merry go round

There was a beautiful little merry go round that the kids loved. It was all kind of vintage looking too. So pretty. I  still don’t understand what’s so exciting about merry go rounds for kids, but hey – they were happy!

var & tae

This picture cracks me up. Like father like son. Except one is playing with super heroes & one is making a grocery list. Can you guess which is which?

train restaurant

This restaurant is a building with an old train car that they turned into a seating are in the restaurant. Complete with a little train going around above. This is where we spent our New Year’s dinner. No fancy party for us, just some good old fashioned family time & a movie!

That’s about it! It’s been amazingly fun but I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. I am going to start blogging more about ‘lifestyle’ subjects including my kids, travels, cooking adventures etc. instead of just beauty. Don’t worry, I will still include hairstyles & makeup tutorials, I just wanted to include more of myself as well. I hope you enjoy it!

Wow, you moved on the 24th! What a Christmas – these are the things you will never forget!
And now we are only a short 6 hour drive apart from each other! Yay! Have fun! xxx

6 hours!! So close & yet so far! I plan on making it to Germany at some point this year. It’s been on my list for a while but haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll let you know if I do!

Welcome to Paris! Hope the madness isn’t too intense and routines start to settle down soon. I’m also an expat, mum and blogger, in Paris. Just thought I’d say Hi, and if you don’t know many people, feel a bit isolated, just let me know. I’ve been reading your blog for a few months and enjoy the gorgeous photos. Look forward to seeing Paris through your lens! xx

You’re an expat too!! So fun! I love meeting people living a similar life. And don’t you just love Paris? I love it. I have never lived this close (we’ve been in France for 4 out of the last 5 years now, off & on) and this year we are about an hour from Paris. I hope to go often, but we’ll see! We should definitely try to meet up sometime!

I’m glad you are enjoying your first weeks’ in France. I’m excited to read all about it and see all the wonderful pictures. I saw your picture of peanut butter in a can this weekend and you made me think what will I find when we move to CR? Your post is getting me even more excited for our move. 😀

Isn’t it funny? I mean, I don’t really know why it grossed me out, it’s probably more normal here or wherever it came from! I can’t wait to hear about your adventures too! I’ve never been to CR & would love to go! I wanted to go after college, but never made it. I hope to post more about our adventures! Just settling in this week!

You are so inspirational to me.  I love how you live your life.  You are so adventurous.  You have a husband and kids and you pack up, pick up, move, travel, explore and live and France half of the year.  And bonus! you are amazing at hair and makeup 🙂  My husband might have the opportunity for us to live in Germany for 6 months to a year and I am super excited and scared out of my mind thinking about doing it 😀

    • Natalia January 8, 2013 at 8:16 am #

Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! It doens’t come without it’s difficulties, but I do love it. I mean, how many people get to visit Europe, let alone live here & see so much of it! My advice (not that you’re asking!) but GO!! Enjoy an amazing adventure with your husband and family. You can do anything for 6 months, even if it is hard, but if you miss the opportunity, I think you’ll regret it! And even if it turns out to be something that was hard & you didn’t like it (which I doubt!) you will only remember the good memories! Sounds like a lot of fun to me! Then come visit me in Paris! 🙂

I will! My husband and I are both Army brats and moved a lot as kids and then I was in the Army for 4 years (hubby still is as a reservist) and lived in Hawaii and then traveled a lot too (including a nice trip to the desert for a year!).  We have been settled in Florida for 2 years now, but are itching to travel.  If this opportunity becomes a certainty, we are doing it.  I don’t want to regret not taking a great adventure!  And, we will totally come to Paris.  It is at the top of my bucket list of places to visit 🙂  Thanks for saying DO IT!

        • Natalia January 8, 2013 at 12:30 pm #

Sounds amazing!! I mean, you only live once, right? I want to see everywhere I can see! I know when my hubs is done playing we won’t travel over here as much, or at all, really! So I gotta make it worth it!! Let me know what you decide, can’t wait to hear!

So fun! We just moved from MI to England in September (with 3 kids!) and I can’t wait to get over to France for a visit. My hubs is actually French. I dream to live there one day, if only for a while!

    • Natalia January 10, 2013 at 5:44 am #

Oh so fun! I have only been to England once, but I loved it!! What a fun adventure, isn’t it?!

Totally saw you on house hunters international! I flipped to it and caught the very end and I was like “HEY! I read her blog!!” haha I was so excited. Was that episode from this move or a previous one? How fun to be on that show! I love it! So glad you’re back in France! Sounds beautifully crazy so far but c’est la vie!

    • Natalia January 21, 2013 at 5:35 am #

That episode was from the previous move, we’re in a completely different city now! Funny how times changes things so much. But we are still in France! It is beautiful here & sometimes it’s hard, but I really wouldn’t change it, it’s an amazing experience! I am thankful for it!
