If you’ve visited this blog for any length of time, you’d know that I love all things hair, beauty, and fashion. However, I am not an expert. I am just a momma trying to figure it all out. I don’t keep up on trends as I would like to, am more practical than fashionable & don’t have a ton of time or money to shop.
So instead of pretending like I have all the secrets to being fashionable, I got an actual expert to come share with you all! Meet Sydne Summer. Sydne is a Los Angeles based fashion expert, stylist, host, and blogger. Over at her blog, Sydne Style, you will find practical ways to wear different staples as well as trends. She does a ‘staple of the week’ and then throughout the week shows you different ways to wear that piece. How fun is that?
So I asked you on Facebook and added some questions of my own and she so graciously answered! Here are her tips & tricks for fashion for the holiday season.
1. What is the hottest style of the season, who can pull it off & how?
Leather is everywhere and can be worn by anyone! Leather leggings are incredibly versatile. They can be worn with sweaters, blazers and feminine blouses. A leather pencil skirt works for women of all sizes, as does a leather jacket. Step outside your comfort zone in a bold color like blue or red.
2. Do you have some tips for dressing for your body type? Looking sexy no matter what your size or shape?
Looking sexy is all about confidence. Instead of obsessing over the latest trends, wear what makes you feel good. I always suggest investing in a statement pair of heels. They’ll fit you even if you over indulge during the holidays. Another way to feel sexy is spending an extra five minutes prepping your body before getting dressed: Apply lotion to make sure your skin is silky smooth. Choose a deodorant like Dove to make sure you’re moisturized while staying dry. And exfoliate your lips so they’re kissable all night long!
3. What is your personal favorite style of the season?
I’m currently obsessed with peplum. Every week you’ll find me in a peplum top, skirt or dress. The trend is ideal for creating that coveted hourglass silhouette.
4. What are some holiday outfit ideas for various types of parties. Let’s say work, family, & friends night out.
One of the hottest outfit ideas this holiday season is going sleeveless! In fact, Dove did a survey and they discovered that more than half of U.S. women are going sleeveless this winter and the most popular occasions are at holiday parties and out with friends. Before you slip on that red shift dress, guarantee confidence with Dove go sleeveless Soothing Chamomile Deodorant. It provides softer, smoother underarms in just 5 days with vitamins E and F and Dove ¼ moisturizers while providing 48 hours of protection. It’s a definite must-have this season!
5. What are three of your go-to makeup looks that will work for the holidays?
My number one go-to during the holidays is a red lip. It instantly dresses up anything you’re wearing from a basic black dress to a comfy sweater. I’m also a big fan of festive manicures. Ease into the trend by adding a few coats of glitter to each of your ring fingers. Another go-to makeup look is bronze eyeliner. It’s a great metallic for the holidays.
6. What are some spring fashion trends we should be looking forward to?
Lace, chambray, black and white prints and preppy stripes are some of my favorite trends for 2013.
Make sure you stop by Sydne’s Facebook or say “Hi!” on Twitter - it’s always great to connect!
Inspired by Sydne’s fashion advice, I’ve put this collection together with items that she mentioned so you can kinda shop around. Enjoy!

Great tips! Thanks for sharing!
Yay! I love that she broke down the trends so efficiently. I never thought I would want to wear leather leggings, but I kinda sorta do now. And yay for red lipstick!
I know! And her blog is great too!
