I have a super duper easy DIY for ya today. It’s a cute, fitted pencil skirt. It will take seriously 20 minutes of your time. You’re welcome.
Take the material of your choice and fold it in half. I wanted 30 inches from waist to below my knees length wise, so I made sure I measured that. Then I measured my waist, hips, booty and cut those measurements in 1/4. There was a little bit of a curve from the small booty that I do have, as you can see. However, I cut it a little wide and had to take some in.
I actually tried on the skirt with the pins in it and repinned certain areas that needed to be tighter. It was a lot staighter of a line than I thought…
#needmorecurves Then you sew up either side, add an elastic waistband at the top like the DIY maxi dress I did a while back, and voila, you’re done! Didn’t I say it was easy?
I actually just had the urge to have a colored skirt, then I saw a picture on Instagram of a girl wearing a long, pencil skirt and I knew I needed one! I am happy with the way it turned out and already and thinking through what my next one’s gonna look like! I am loving this sewing thing!
I paired it with a big poofy top knot and my Walmart Beatles tank, which I love by the way. That reminds me, I love the Beatles and grew up listening to them. However they seem to have never quite made it to the Bahamas and my husband seems to think Michael Jackson was a bigger super star than the Beatles. What do you think, MJ or the Beatles?
My vote’s with the Beatles. Obviously.

You did a great job! Love the color. I have an a cotton a-line skirt that’s too big. I’m thinking of altering it into a pencil skirt. We’ll see. Most likely it will end up in the trash.

That’s an excellent idea, it would probably be pretty easy too!

No way dude! Beatles ruled the world when they were together! I mean, I love me some MJ too, but Beatles were bigger. This is an ongoing conversation in our house… haha!
Where did you find such a fantastic colored fabric? what type of knit is it? I seriously need to make me one! I came over from HOH and I’m excited to see more of your projects.
I got it an Joanns and I don’t know what kind of material it is… it’s a little stretchy but not a knit. I will have to check, sorry!
I love it! That color is great, and it looks pretty simple to make. Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
