The Artist: 20’s Era Makeover and Giveaway!

Ahhhhh the 1920’s, easily one of my favorite decades when it came to style and fashion! Then when the movie The Artist came out I became more and more intoxicated with the feeling, the romance, the drama and of course the hair and makeup that lovely decade brought us. I have been wanting to try out a hair and makeup look specifically from the 1920’s and in celebration of the DVD/BluRay release of the Artist this month I had the perfect opportunity!

I now bring you the many moods of……

Want to see how I accomplished my look? I made  a little flick to show you 🙂 For more details on makeup continue to read below the clip! Or head down to the bottom to see the giveaway!

Ok so now let me walk you through the details of the makeup process:

Face: The face was always done very pale. So you will want to find a cream foundation that is a couple shades lighter than your normal color. Apply it evenly to your entire face, blending around your jaw line so as to eliminate a distinct makeup line.

Eyes: Using a Kohl liner, line your upper and lower lid completely with a solid, fairly thick line. Do not wing your liner! Using a black, charcoal or dark grey shadow cover your upper lid up to the crease with the shadow. Continue to apply the shadow along your lower lash line as well to create an extremely smoky eye. Apply black mascara and if you want to go a little untraditional for 1920’s add false lashes! They are always fun 🙂

Cheeks: Always in a nice red or pink shade, women wore their rouge dark and distinct. You could use a tint, cream or even a red lipstick. Apply to the apples of your cheeks and slightly blend.

Lips: The “Cupid’s Bow” shape was the most popular during the 20’s. For a clear idea of what that looks like see the picture above. To achieve this look apply the same color foundation to your lips (make sure they are exfoliated before you start). Shape out the lips with a dark plum or red liner and then fill in once you are happy with the shape. Finally apply a great red lipstick and pucker up!

Now for the really exciting part! In celebration of the DVD release of The Artist, Sony Pictures & MAKE UP FOR EVER have donated this awesome loot for us to give away!

This giveaway includes: A DVD copy of The Artist, “Outfit 911” by Marie Claire, and a TON of goodies from MAKE UP FOR EVER (worth over $150) including (but not limited to) lipstick, Kohl liner, eyeshadow and rouge that is perfect for your own 1920’s look! This entire giveaway is worth over $200! Enter now via Rafflecopter. Good luck!  XOXO- Christie

I love how the climax of the whole movie was completely silent – no talking (much like most of the movie), no background noise, and most disturbingly – no score. There was an audible “gasp” from the crowd in the theater during that part. 🙂
I really, really loved this film!

  2. Amber July 13, 2012 at 10:44 am #

I love the whole idea of the film! There is just something so magical about a silent b&W film that is lost in a lot movies today. Beautiful!

I was charmed through and through by ‘The Artist’ and I was thrilled when costume designer Mark Bridges took the Oscar for his work on the movie (and the BAFTA too). In many interviews he talked about his emphasis on finding garnets and fabrics that would really pop in the black and white photography and I think he had a lot of success there. Here he is being interviewed by my favorite movie costume blogger ‘Clothes on Film’ before the awards had started to roll in: http://clothesonfilm.com/the-artist-interview-with-mark-bridges/23329/

PS: Just found your blog and I love it!

I love b&w so much that I actually make most of my little films in b&w. And in my opinion, no decade will top the essence the 1920’s had. I love everything about the 20’s and The Artist captured it perfectly! It is now top on my list of favorite movies:)
